Oh for pete's sake, just a few minutes after I posted my column, SFWA sent out an email undoing the LLM rule changes. The email says the Nebula Award rules will now state "Works that are written, either wholly or partially, by generative large language model (LLM) tools are not eligible." 9/

For the first time in my life, I donated to the American Academy of Pediatrics. They’re upholding evidence-based health standards for our kids and our communities, and they’re losing federal grants because of it.

There never seems to be a good time for anything online lately so I'm just going to throw this out here now:

I am looking for more work! I don't mean writing (though that too, sure!), but in the vein of the work I do for the Le Guin Foundation: organizational, practical, assistant-y, bookish work.

Friends, after many years, going all the way back to taking Denny O'Neil's course on comic writing at the School of Visual Arts in 1995, I am glad to announce that I will finally have a comic published. I will have a two-page story in an upcoming anthology about women's sports from Lifeline Comics.

Buying any ONE @pdxbroadsides.bsky.social album from us or @bandcamp.com gives us more than we've ever gotten from Spotify. (Tidal and Apple Music give us bigger cuts, if you're into other streamers, but we get about $30-$50/quarter from our global digital manager.)
also, Spotify doesn't pay royalties at all for tracks with less than a thousand streams.

and sometimes if an album gets a sudden surge of fan interest, Spotify deems it "unusual listening activity" and just removes the album, as happened to my last EP.
Spotify has laid off thousands in recent years, while reportedly paying artists $0.003 per stream.

Spotify profits rose 28% in Q3. Its CEO is worth $9.8 billion. It's making money off ICE recruitment ads.

Don't you think it's time put a wrap on corporate greed and exploitation?

A very important thread. When I was probably no more than 10, I saw this picture of the woman known as Harlow in the Philly Inquirer. A little babygay, I was shocked that such a glamour queen could live in my hometown and even more shocked to see her described as "a former man."

OK gang, I have a big ask. My wife dropped and broke her favorite mug today and all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't possibly put Humpty together again.

I'd like to replace it with the same one. Anyone have any leads?
