The Western US is on track to experience one of its hottest Dec in recorded history. All areas shaded in dark red have seen record-warm temperatures over the past two weeks. Some parts of the Pacific Northwest have been 15–20°F above normal during this period. Here in Santa Fe, NM, we're at +16ºF.

The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.

Just really awesome how our financial elite just spent the last several decades admonishing people for pursing the humanities and creative fields, and are now suddenly pedaling the idea that "there are no good ideas anymore" after spending the last 5 years laying off everybody with a brain

It looks like 2025 will end up at about 1.47°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it likely the third hottest year in the last 120,000+ years.

Meanwhile, the 3-year running average is going to end the year above 1.50°C for the first time.

(Former?) Tucson muralist Cyfi (Rock Martinez) has this 3-D work of a shark at the Artemizia Foundation in Bisbee. The big show is by another Tucson muralist, Jessica Gonzales. Artemizia specializes in contemporary, street art, graffiti... it's worth the trip if you're into that kind of art!

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

I understand that a lot of folks have been misled by fear-mongering and powerful regressive voices but it’s still astonishing to me that so many have fallen for the idea that oppressively policing other people’s gender identity and expression could in any way be part of an enlightened future.

Just a reminder that ICE didn't exist until 2002. It's not some longstanding institution that must be maintained. It was created as a knee-jerk reaction to 9/11, and it could be gotten rid of as easily as it was created.

I used Mosaic to look up blueberry couscous recipes in 1995 in Tucson, Arizona. It was a great step up from the paper issues of the indexes to magazines abd journals. What were they called?
🧵 The first popular web browser was Mosaic, released in 1993 by NCSA at the University of Illinois. 🌐

Most people today have never heard of it, but its original site is preserved on the #WaybackMachine ⤵️ web.archive.org/web/19961220...
