Btw - I write poetry, used to sing (jazz mainly, if you ask I will email you SO many wavs), and attempt to sketch. I have a book of stories coming out next year, but don't have a brain that can write long stuff. I've lived in Scotland with family for 30 years, still sound like Mary Poppins.

Mr England is setting the tone here for Europe which is very much What The Actual Fuck. The only thing impressive about this is that it's not actually the worst that Europe has to offer.

When you write a book, you actually write several books. There's the one you know you wrote. Then there's the one your readers bring their experiences to. Suddenly your book becomes lots of different books, all equally valid.

But the book someone part-reads or presumes you wrote? That can fuck off.

Imogen Stirling was staggered by my poem! I'm thrilled to have made second place behind the lyrical Glasgow Waltz by Don J Taylor. #ScottishAssociationofWriters #SAW #JamesMuirPoetryCompetition #Poetry #ScottishPoetry

I cannot stress this strongly enough: Support your local theatre, café, bookstore, bakery, and library. We breathe life into these places when we support them. They need us, and more importantly, we need them.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

This translation reads very well, but obviously my brain sees and hears only the actors from the TV series.

Hurray, on this magnificent longlist. (A couple of the submitted poems are to be published by @dreich.bsky.social I think, so double hurray.) Please please cross fingers for me, I really like Dithering Chaps (and any excuse to travel to the south coast). #Poetry #BookSky 📚 💙

Love this high-flying, joyful poem by @saccharinequeen.bsky.social inspired by Finn J.'s illustration, Fire Dragon.

If you missed Issue 10: An Ekphrasis Adventure, there are still a few print copies left, or you can download a pdf for free.

Illustration by Finn J. of a red dragon breathing out fire while birds fly over him. Accompanying the illustration is part of the poem "Whoosh" by Sadie Maskery.

This could be a long and rambling thread. Be patient with me.

I bought an old mahogany bureau on Ebay. I didn't really want a bureau as we're meant to be downsizing, but it was a beautiful piece & obviously very old. Google lens suggests the brass chased handles are Queen Anne. That's 1702-1714 😯

It just seems like your weekend would be best served by taking a stroll (however you define "stroll") to your local bookstore, browsing for a bit, & chatting with a bookseller about what you should read next.

This - which I explored today - is the kind of thing I live for on walks in the deep countryside: a 200+-year-old abandoned walled garden, totally overgrown and teeming with wildlife and ghosts.

Finding lost magic places like this, untouched and undeveloped, always fills me with weird kind of hope.
The entrance to the walled garden I found today, with its broken door and big ivy hat. An interdimensional portal in the walled garden I found today A hole in the wall of the walled garden I found today, leading to 1785. Ruined potting sheds in the walled garden I found today.
