And also: why were there 11 people on the boat? Drug war experts say that drug boats typically carry only 2-3 because they want space for drugs. Widely suspected that there were migrants killed, not just drug smugglers.
How does this square with earlier reports that the boat had turned around and was heading to shore even before the first strike? Also what evidence is there that any drugs on the boat were headed to the US and not (more likely) Europe? How did this constitute a “threat”? www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

Jacob Frey on Minneapolis's Somali community: "These are people that have benefitted Minneapolis in a really beautiful way, and to just go after a whole community indiscriminately -- it's unconstitutional, it's flat out un-American, but I guess that's what we've become accustomed to w/ Donald Trump"

Thing is, we DID hear about it at his confirmation hearing.

Every single senator who voted to confirm Hegseth knew he held these views about the laws of war.

They voted to confirm him anyway.
Everyone should read this terrifying thread about Hegseth’s published views wrt war crimes. It’s pretty fucking radical …. We needed to hear about this in his confirmation hearing.
A chapter in Hegseth’s book is literally titled “More Lethality, Less Lawyers.”

It’s almost as if there were signs!

Democrat MOCs: do you smell blood in the water yet? Time to be MUCH MORE AGGRESSIVE in calling out Republican fuckery. Trump is WEAK, crumbling, and lashing out when he’s not asleep on live TV. Get out there and make noise about failed GOP policies and leadership.

Thanks @gregsargent.bsky.social!
Remarkable how many Rs are now openly warning of 2026 bloodbath:

*Ted Cruz calls for sounding "alarm"
*Elise Stefanik says Rs are "underperforming"
*Leading GOP strategist warns Tuesday results "flashing red"

it's the same thing I keep pounding the table about: the way you use the tools reflects on you, not the tool

the product teams for these tools should be pushing harder towards epistemologically sound uses of them, but the door is there and it's unlocked whether they're pointing at it.

the difference between somebody just blasting out an outline with chatgpt and somebody who uses it as a stenographer is huge and obvious.

press record, brain dump, have it ask questions (don't have it answer them), have it organize into notes. it's fantastic.

write for you? it and you will suck

Turn it back on them. 🎯 Exactly right, Jacob Frey: What Trump is doing to the Constitution is "garbage"
Jacob Frey: "If they're just indiscriminately going after people, due process is violated, habeas corpus is violated, the entire Constitution in and of itself is being thrown in the garbage. So you want to use the term 'garbage,' that's exactly what Trump is doing right now to the Constitution."

But at a broader level—do we regularly deploy police in ways that often prioritize aggressive social control of disliked groups over public safety—Trump 2.0 fits into a well-known pattern, and should be framed that way.

The state could do so much more to support employers and get more people into work. Frankly I think it’s time to level society by seriously increasing tax on millionaires and billionaires then paying universal basic income.

And blew up boats w random ppl!

From a “tough on crime” angle, these are non-se social choices.

From a “social control” angle, they make total sense.

I hammer this point bc of how the media keeps framing his Nat Guard nonsense as “tough on crime.”

Trump doesn’t care abt CRIME. It’s abt control.
He just pardoned a huge narcotrafficker! They’re not tough on crime.
