My latest book review!
“Fairy tales are ‘a shared dream or nightmare, enchanting lie or poetic truth, gender-shaping advertising or innocuous entertainment, traditional wisdom or thought experiment, normative script or transgressive spark.’”

Bacchilega and Greenhill’s work fits alongside heightened cultural awareness of the functions of fabulism in fictions by the marginalized.

I did 2 terms as a VISTA. I’m a millennial—I graduated right after the market crashed & there were no jobs. AmeriCorps gave me meaningful work, even though it was minimum wage. The school pantry I started still serves 100s of students a year over a decade later 🧵

if you’re an artist who ever thought “what’s the point? The world is Hell and I should do something that matters instead”

even in an ICE detention center people will treat art as sacred, seek it out, and find joy and comfort in it. You aren’t making art, you’re making hope.

My fellow Americans I have bad news: boycotts need to be targeted to work. And the target needs to know your demands so that they can be met once sufficient pain is delivered. No one will notice a diffuse boycott of The Economy. There remains no substitute for joining a group and making plans.

A major reason to watch more silent film is that there are all kinds of hidden subgenres. For example, trade magazines discussed "lion pictures" alongside comedies and dramas.
