A tip for youthful uterus owners - try to get REALLY settled into a life pattern before menopause because not only is it harder to convince employers of your value… 1/4

Intriguing item from my dad's coin collection. Once was a Queen Victoria penny. (Dad is John Rees)

Instead of wild rides of near psychedelic possibility now, when I do remember my dreams, my subconscious fully reflects middle age. Recently dreamt of a new flavour of soluble electrolytes. Last night - a new pair of really nice tracky daks. Genuinely disappointed they weren’t real when I woke up.

Have you ever been trapped in a supermarket carpark while a box of Splits melts away because both feet are cramping so bad that pressing the accelerator is out of the question?

The autocorrect in my gmail just changed the sign-off to a request for rejected application feedback from ‘Best’ to ‘Worst’ regards. I caught it just in time. Yes, it’s reading my mind, but I have no idea how that move was supposed to be helpful.

There’s currently a lot of Swamp Harrier action alongside the river at the moment. Mating couples doing spectacular aeronautical duets midair. It’s hard to keep your eyes on the road. I imagine that’s the cause of the head-on car/guardrail prang I saw today. Take note pervy twitchers - pull over.

It’s Spring. And once again I feel the tragic mismatch of my love for baby bunnies and my love for native birds of prey. Drama on the riverbank roadside with no idea who to barrack for.

So recruiters are using AI to filter job applications and employees are using AI to write their CVs. Let's bin it all off and replace it rolling D&D dice. "Gandalf has 18 for appitude, invite him to an interview for a job in IT"

So… if Tasmanians had developed their own rhyming slang, would ‘Katy Perry’ mean ‘Austins Ferry’, or would it be the other way around?

Dear friends. Some bugger hacked my email so just delete any weird emails from me if you weren’t expecting anything. Or even if you were to be honest.

So, is there a commercial market for dog poo? Because we’ve hit the jackpot if so.

Context: a combo of menopause + arthritis has forced the need to frequently don a pair of cutoff cotton gloves. To appease my own irritation I’d like to embroider words across the knuckles, but this photo gives me the only option I’ve gotten excited about. Unfortunately I don’t have enough fingers.

On Friday night the 2025 Burnie Print Prize opened at the other end of the state at Burnie Arts (in their temporary popup gallery) with this work of mine, ‘Akimbo’, on the walls.
It’s a diptych of inkjet prints blown-up from a digitised cyanotype. 1/4

I get big feels from these works. 1. Because, materially they achieve something I’ve been flailing at for some time now but can never quite get right and 2. Because of the funding pulled from US national parks. I sigh deeply. Twice. I love them.
Works by American artist Don Suggs, 2010s, who paints concentric circle motifs over grayscale photos of national parks, canyons, and natural landmarks, which each color representing different elements of the landscape.

I’m off on another road trip to the NW on Friday. Anyone else got anything they need delivered? Or at a loose end and want to play sidekick? Up and back in a day, departing Hobart about 9, returning… when we get here. Glovebox full of CDs, nice dog, frequent toilet stops…

Y'all, I am BEGGING YOU to turn on your alt text switch and alt text your images. Take the time, please. Make this place different in the ways that matter. It has gotten much worse, and we need to be moving the other way.
