2025 was a horrible year in a lot of ways, but 1) I still live a nice life with a wife I love in a city I love, and 2) my career has really taken off for the better this year in a way I didn't expect. An embarrassment of riches, honestly.

Since going to grad school and leaving the childcare industry, I have been a high school teacher, a nonprofit program instructor, and a university exchange student instructor and LET ME FUCKING TELL YOU. All of these jobs have seemed like a beautiful dream in comparison to working in childcare.

One thing about my new job (which is teaching English to mostly-Japanese university exchange students) is that it's really restoring my Japanese vocabulary! I feel like so much is coming back to me lately (I'm not speaking it with the students, I'm mostly eavesdropping lol)

I've been thinking about the holidays and whether it's worth attempting to go home. Like 1) I'm worried about my wife's safety and well-being and 2) I don't want to spend time with my step-dad's super fashy extended family (they always come over on holidays).
