Some thoughts in the post, plus a rec for a film & a book that the story reminded me of. I really loved the tone of the letters, the way they sounded really natural, and the contrast from the day-to-day to the horror of the rented house. Also loved that it was literally indescribable. #AScareADay

Yes please, I would like to BUY A STRANGER A BOOK, up to £20. ("Strangers" can include mutuals I don't know very well, unless I have already bought them a book previously.)

We are left to imagine what sort of ghastly visitation could have driven one person mad and frightened another quite to death, but I often prefer this to a description that ends up falling quite flat (terror is such a personal thing).

#AScareADay Day 8 – The Truth, The Whole Truth, And Nothing but the Truth by Rhoda Broughton.

A ghost story told through letters today. The tone shift from the everyday exchanges to the terrible events in the house worked really well I thought.

Today is my favourite day on Bluesky.

Seeing the offers and the replies is such a pick-me-up.

I've done both in the past, and the kindness of the people out there is so heartwarming.

If you can make an offer, that's amazing. If you see something that appeals to you, don't be afraid to ask. ❤️🫂

Covid is not over.

People are still dying and becoming disabled every day.

We rushed “back to normal” for the economy, not because the threat had passed.

When you wear a mask, you’re not only protecting your health, you’re saying you don’t believe anyone is expendable.

There is no Prime Day sale over at my tiny shop. But you can buy a hand-sewn little guy that took me many hours to create.

Hi Bluesky! I just launched my Big Cartel fabric art shop, and I was wondering if you could help spread the word?

All of my creations are designed, hand-sewn, and hand-embroidered by me. Any sales are colossally appreciated.

Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of hand-sewn fabric art creatures. There's a watermelon creature with a red face, eight black seed-like eyes, and a wide mouth with five sharp teeth. There's a white ghost trinket bag covered with purple embroidered flowers. She has a gray face, sparkly black eyes and a little frown. There's a strawberry creature with three bulbous green eyes. There's a watermelon ghost, a strawberry ghost bag, and a black creature with sharp teeth. There's a white egg with yellow embroidered flowers and purple eyeshadow and purple lips. All the creatures are sitting on green fur and there's a galaxy print fabric in the background. The watermelon creature and the watermelon ghost are sitting on metal doll chairs. Here's a lovely photo of the cosmic ghost bag. She's a black ghost with various stars and planets embroidered on her body. There are little white stars, larger white stars, yellow stars, purple stars, a dark purple planet, a light purple planet, a red planet with a yellow ring. She has a gray moon-like face with large sparkly black eyes and a little frown. She's wearing a black fabric witch hat. She's resting on my palm and there's green fur in the background of the pic. Here's a lovely photo of three fabric art eggs watching the tiny witch homunculus balancing on one foot on a small broom. The eggs are purple, pink and white, and they're covered with embroidered flowers. The eggs have mouths with lip colors that match their flowers. They have two flat teeth poking out of their mouths. The pink egg is wearing a small sun hat. The tiny witch homunculus is green with large sparkly red eyes and a little frown. There's green fur in the background of the photo. Here's a photo of fabric art creatures with a white fabric background. There's a cute and creepy mothman with a black body and a gray face with twinkly red eyes and sharp teeth. There's a green Kentucky goblin with a lighter green face and large pointy ears. He has twinkly yellow eyes and he's wearing a black party hat covered with red googly eyes and a big red poof at the top. There's also a red death worm with nine cream-colored eyes and sharp teeth. The tiny homunculus witch is sitting on the worm's head. She's very small, with large twinkly red eyes and a green body. She's wearing a small version of the party hat the goblin's wearing.

Horrible and incredibly short-sighted decision. Absenteeism, pressure on hospitals, long covid...death. And terrible messaging: restricting eligibility suggests reduced risk.

Quite a sad one for #AScareADay Day 7; The Last House in C____ Street by Dinah Mulock. I do love a moment of death phantom (generally speaking) but I certainly felt for the protagonist's realisation at the end.

Joy has arrived in the form of some very lovely corvid art from @gingertotty.bsky.social

Not going to lie, I coveted this the moment I saw Amelia working on it so I am beyond thrilled it now lives with me.
A miniature portrait of two magpies in a pine tree on a textured pebble gilded with gold leaf.
A box decorated with two magpies who appear to be chattering under a sun with a happy face. The words "Two for joy" are above them inside a heart.

Day 6 of #AScareADay and we're on with another poem! This time it's Emily Bronte with a technically untitled poem (I think) about a mysterious stranger and his basilisk eye...

I recorded it with my new mic so better sound quality!

A silence settled on the room,
The cheerful welcome sank to gloom;
But not those words, though cold or high,
So froze their hospitable joy.
No—there was something in his face,
Some nameless thing which hid not grace,
And something in his voice's tone
Which turned their blood as chill as stone.

Day 6 of #AScareADay give us an Emily Brontë poem, ‘And now the house dog stretched once more’

I love the way this captures that creeping discomfort of knowing something in your cosy familiar setting is just...wrong.
