Put aside that it isn't actually all that horrible to say such a thing, he actually didn't say that. Why are people incapable of taking on someone's words as they actually exist?

He claimed that if he lived in Gaza he would have joined the Hamas terrorists and participated in the October 7th massacre. But I guess that fact would not align with Glenn's narrative on the Joooos If I were 20 years old, born into Gaza, a giant open-air jail ... if my father is a fisherman and he goes too far out into the sea, he might get shot by somebody inside of Israeli boats ... if my mother picks the olive trees and she gets too close to the wall, she might be shot ... if my little sister has cancer and she needs treatment because there are no facilities to do that in Gaza and I don't get the right permit, she might die ... if I grow up under that oppression, and that poverty ... when the wall comes down lon October 7], am I also strong enough, or even constructed in such a way where I say: "This is too far"? I don't know that I am. I don't know that I am. I don't know that I am. I just wish we had room to work through that, you know what I mean? And to think about that and to talk about that.

IN 1976 A DELEGATION OF HISTORIANS FROM THE SOVIET UNION visited the United States to participate in commemorations of the bicentennial of the American Revolution. Upon their arrival, a local host asked them which sites they would like to visit first. He as- sumed that they would want to see Independence Hall, or perhaps Lexington and Concord, or Williamsburg and Yorktown. But the answer was none of the above. They wished to go first to Gettysburg. The host—a historian of the Revolution and the early republic—was dumfounded. Why Gettysburg? he asked. Because, they replied, it is the American Stalingrad—the battlefield in America's Great Patri- otic War where so many gave the last full measure of devotion that the United States might not perish from the earth.

/5 Americans would likely support using torture to compel testimony if Dick Wolf phrased it right. Americans pay some limited lip service to rights but in general are prone to treating any limitation on state power whatsoever in the criminal context as pro-crime.

as "rape of a virgin territory." Then he starts to single out his colleagues. He describes David Atchison as a Roman traitor. He compares President Franklin Pierce to a Roman dictator. He basically calls Stephen Douglas Lucifer incarnate. And then he targets Senator Andrew Pickens Butler of South Carolina. Butler is a slaveholder. Butler also has a speech impediment because he was recovering from a stroke. Sumner makes fun of his speech impediment, makes fun of Butler's hair, makes fun of Butler's home state by saying the state of South Carolina could be blotted out of existence and civilization would look the same. And then he targets Butler by saying that Butler had a mistress, pure in his sight but ugly in the sight of the world: "the harlot, Slavery." What Sumner is doing is he's pointing out the reality that Southern slaveholders were often engaging in rape. I found evidence that's not been reported in any previous Sumner biography that one of Butler's former slaves was interviewed in the 1930s, many decades later, and that enslaved person, now free, recalled that Butler did, in fact, have a - quote, unquote - mistress and sired two children by her. So Sumner is telling the world about Butler's activities as he's pointing out this antidemocratic, treasonous activity in Kansas. The Senate is appalled by this speech. One senator said that Butler should come back and basically beat the crap out of Sumner. A congressman said that Sumner should be hanged.

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

It would help immensely if the critiques of porn, did not confuse "sex" with "porn." The push to be "sexy" and sexism are not rooted in one form of media. But linking both evangelicals and anti-SW feminists is the idea that sexist evil can be traced to one tantalizing source.
