I can think of a lot of properties in Vancouver that are more highly trafficked than that one.

I don't think it really passes muster to say you can only exercise your charter rights if one has to stand right beside it to read what is said.

The unsympathetic nature of Chip and the over the top rhetoric aside, I don't think a citizen in a democracy should be fined for expressing their own political views via a sign on their own residential property

The irony is that a lot of the replies to that and reactions to McPherson's comments is to purity test over the use of the phrase "purity test"

The real danger lies not in the growing size of today’s deficit, but in failing to plan prudently for what comes next.

Describing upzoning and filtering as “trickle down” economics while calling price controls a viable solution displays a level of policy ignorance or willful blindness on housing that I hoped we had put behind us here in BC.

The BC Greens’ new leader says it’s time to revive a housing tool scrapped in the 1970s. Here’s what she told Daily Hive.

The average Canadian leftist believes they are an American living in the year 2024. The only obstacle to the resolution of every social and economic ill is a willingness to tax billionaires and strip the military budget, and direct the presumed-to-be-infinite income to their favourite non-profits.

Also, not sure Don Davies knows that rural folks are already using community mailboxes

And I thought Ford's 401 tunnel was a stretch as a "nation building project" but that's nothing compared to using that to describe not having to walk down the block to pick up the 3 non-junk mail letters that show up every month.

Home mail delivery was - and is - a nation-building project that connects Canadians across our country. Ending it will hurt many, esp. seniors, rural folks & businesses who rely on this crucial service.
And it’s not “Ottawa” who’s giving the green light - the Liberals are.
heathermcpherson.bsky.social
The Liberals should be protecting good jobs and strengthening our public services.

Instead they’re allowing Canada Post to cut services, fire Canadians and make it harder to get your mail.

I think the problem is they did try to compete and were unsuccessful at it. Not sure how much is management vs union intransigence.

Either way, from 2019 to 2023, their package market share dropped from 62% to 29%.
sdlb.bsky.social
There is probably some room to get their package service cost structure to be more competitive with others in that market.

But at the end of the day, the decline is driven by technology and there isn't going to be a fix outside of something crazy like banning email

Would anyone miss having to toss out a mailbox full of flyers and junk mail daily instead of twice a week?

I'll believe the UBCM delegates are sincere about this when they remove all the barriers to housing in their own municipalities.

A right to housing necessarily requires a right to build housing. Anything else is empty symbolism.

UBCM delegates endorsed a resolution to ask the province to declare housing a human right

Resolution was brought forward by a consortium of 9 local governments with Langford as listed sponsor

No Con speakers, it passed with little opposition but fairly sparse support #bcpoli
Housing
NR17 Declaring Housing as a Human Right Langford
Whereas recognizing housing as a human right fundamentally shifts government motivations by adding critical
urgency and responsibility to ensure access to affordable housing (meaning housing costs are aligned with
income) through policies that prevent homelessness, address the escalating housing and homelessness crisis,
eliminate discrimination, and prioritize the needs of vulnerable and marginalized populations;
And whereas the Government of Canada affirmed the right to housing as a matter of international law and
enshrined it domestically through the National Housing Strategy Act (2019), recognizing housing as a human
right and establishing mechanisms for accountability and inclusion:
Therefore be it resolved that the UBCM call for the BC Government to enshrine housing as a human right in
legislation and forthcoming housing and homelessness strategies, ensuring that housing policy in British
Columbia is grounded in principles of equity, accessibility, accountability, and the inherent dignity of all people.

Like if you take seriously the idea that this is about dangerous infectious diseases that are a serious threat to both the ecosystem and agriculture then it’s not something that ought to be postponed for a year while the Supreme Debate Club ponders their feelings about it

This is one of those cases where the scandal is saying out loud what everyone already knows.

In addition to saying its all about Quebec, the minister also admits that he knows licensed legal gun owners aren't the problem and that the program is misdirected
