Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

There are so many amazing things about being a parent but the most unexpected for me was how funny they are. E.g.: My daughter has an ongoing bit with her grandfather in which they try to steal each other’s dessert. They taunt each other over FaceTime. My daughter brainstorms ways to prank him.

Til they return one hundred of the oil,
the land
The seized
Assets that they stole
They thieved
We need
Them to be returned right now
They should be mine
Or I will use my largest armada
To change the fate of venezuela
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

Hard to think of an album in best-selling music that goes as hard as the first five tracks of Battle of Los Angeles from Rage Against the Machine.

And then just kind of evaporates.

Never forget: this president went to Poland and gave a speech about Western civilization and said it was great because "we write symphonies."

Then he saw a performance of the Finale of the greatest symphony ever written in Hamburg, and when asked about hearing the Ninth said "the opera was good."
There’s something doubly grating about the pious invocation of “Western civilization” by the sort of incurious dolt who wouldn’t know a Titian canvas, a Beethoven quartet, or a Socratic dialogue if whapped them upside the head.
It has long been clear that unalloyed racism lies at the core of Trumpism, and he is becoming increasingly explicit about this.

Reminds me of when Jesse Helms in a hearing kept referring to Kim Jong Il as "Kim Jong the Second." So his staff wrote it out phonetically as "Kim Jong ILL" ... and naturally, he read it as "Kim Jong the Third."
-Often US prez needs to say "difficult" foreign name.
-Any COMPETENT prez, w competent staff, has close-enough version phonetically in text.
-Once Prez Carter welcomed Coptic Pope, Shenouda III, from Egypt
-Carter's text said "sheh-NOO-dah" (via consultation w Arabists)

DAMHIK. This is basic stuff.

Just preordered @patrickwyman.bsky.social new book *Lost Worlds* at my fav local book store @onemorepagebooks.bsky.social. Not much harder than online, and more support for the people I want to support.

This issue is so much more complicated than we want it to be. An E-3 should never be analyzing whether an order is legal in a healthy system, only whether it was legally given. And we probably don't want every E-3 analyzing that order.

The whole paradigm simply doesn't contemplate this situation.
BLITZER: I want to be precise. Should members of the US military obey clearly illegal orders?

McCLAIN: You're asking an enlisted person for their opinion on what they think is legal. That's a pretty slippery slope. Follow your commander in chief. That's the oath that you took

(Not a no!)

These foreign-run accounts are following the best practices of disinfo:
-ID vulnerable audience
-amplify preexisting grievances, fissures, or hot-button issues
-monetize and watch the cash flow in.

We've seen this movie many times before. We shouldn't be shocked, but we should be vigilant.
