Art should be funded like science. To properly fund art, you fund failure. Funding failure will give you occasional excellence. Creating any art with the aim of it being popular enough to make money, will give you consistent mediocrity. Arists need funding to play and fail because that's the process
Let me tell you about the weird business that delivers art into our lives, and the impact it has on the long-term careers of artists. This is a thread prompted by yet another article on authors' incomes, and the inevitable reactions from the 'people-would-pay-if-it-was-worth-it-to-them' brigade. 1/

absolutely incredible that you can actually just murder someone on the street in the biggest city in the country with the biggest police force in the country and walk away and they won’t be able to do anything about it.

and they're already almost impossible to get. many doctors requiring shit like a husband's permission to perform them
You didn't think they were gonna stop this fertility moral panic at trans people did you? Next step is scandalizing voluntary hysterectomies to help push bans against that as well.

"Common Sense" is the most loosely defined term in the english language, 20 yrs ago 'common sense' in the U.S was that gays shouldn't get married. So many of these arguments rely on a certain number of people having certain opinions about trans ppl, which is literally the appeal to populace fallacy.

I appreciate the POV, but my point is -If McBride refuses to follow the law - she (& trans ppl) will be seen as uncivilized. Her following it is used as “proof” that trans women “know” we’re men. Either way, we’re harmed. It just shows that you can’t win trans liberation through the system.
Okay, but counterpoint: You're not in her shoes. Yes, it would be great if she would fight this, but we don't know the pressure she's under, in a work environment where just 4 years ago her now-colleagues were assaulted and threatened with death. I imagine she feels the need to be strategic, which>>

also don't buy guns. they are most likely going to end up killing someone in your household and they are not going to keep you safe from the government. just don't buy guns
I'm seeing a lot of people talk about getting a gun in light of this week. I want you to stop for a second and understand a couple things. If you have no prior experience you need to get some before you even consider what you want to buy. You need to internalize firearm safety as sacred
