It entirely depends on if it succeeds at "actually" elevating itself beyond the trappings of the genre. "It insists upon itself" is a common quote in media critique these days for a reason.
I don’t know if this is controversial, but a horror movie being a good movie is more important to me than if it’s scary.

Just finished Fahrenheit 451 and in the 3rd act where they murder "Montag" feels strikingly similar to how #luigimangione is being railroaded. At any cost the elite have to appear overwhelmingly powerful

My husband is an artist who makes orreries (clockwork planetary models) out of metal and glass. When I was struggling to finish my novel, he made me a deal: if I finished the book, he'd make me an orrery based on the world of my novel.
