Hey Texas! Or people with friends or family in Texas!

Dr. Strong taught us at @authorsabb.bsky.social how to get involved in school board elections.

If you care about books bans you have to care about school boards. Dr. Strong is one of the best people to look to for example in this.

GREAT NEWS from Leander ISD. To Kill a Mockingbird, House on Mango St, and Narrative of Life of Frederick Douglass will be returned to classrooms after a massive outcry. Thanks to everyone who spoke up!!!

From an email to teachers today:
*An important update regarding the books that
were previously paused from curriculum use as a
result of concerns around Senate Bill 12.
Thirty-six of the forty books are being reinstated
to the secondary curriculum book list, with
revisions made to the curriculum to ensure TEKS
alignment and compliance with SB 12. Four
titles, Stamped, Melissa (George), Gracefully
Grayson, and The 57 Bus, will remain paused for
additional review of curriculum alignment. Please
note that all books, including these four, should
remain available, or be returned if removed, to
classroom libraries for individual student choice
reading.

I have heard almost all of these pro-AI arguments at one point or another. I love these well-reasoned, thoughtful possible responses to each and every one of them. A much more academic way of saying, Kindly, Fuck Off.

OMFG

Just saw a TikTok where a young person "discovered" pantyhose!

She says they are soft & make your legs look nice & keep your thighs from rubbing together & she can see why they were popular in the 1900s.

💀💀💀💀💀💀

Gonna go bury myself in the woods now.

“Based on the book cover designs alone … the vast majority of the books selected for banning explicitly represented racial, gender and sexual minorities in their cover art.”
Many book bans could be judging titles mainly by their covers
A study of more than 1,600 books suggests that book ban advocates may not look past the cover art.

Goodnight, friends.

Stay safe from the water drugs. If you're headed to Portland, take extra supplies as I'm told all the stores are boarded over and gone. Who even goes fishing anymore?

I love you.

A8: Self-censorship is based in fear. When we operate from fear; we are being inauthentic, we are failing to meet ALL students' needs, and we are giving in to those who would do our kids harm. Books save lives, & it's our duty to proactively curate them for our communities.

People cannot afford to be alive.

How the FUCK are people still supporting an administration that’s doing absolutely nothing but racism and destroying our livelihoods?
