I know he was once considered a real threat but Jordan Peterson's King Lear story arc where he gets visibly frailer with every public appearance while his daughter very obviously slowly poisons him is kind of iconic...

“Following the release of the recent BBC podcasts the Democratic Unionist Party wishes to make clear that Mr Ian Paisley is appearing in this series in his own personal capacity and not on behalf of the Democratic Unionist Party.”

The DUP has been forced to issue a press release distancing itself from Ian Óg Paisley who says that while he feels that the case has not yet been made, he is now open to discussion on the reunification of Ireland. 😶

If your entire argument for why Jews should be protected is not because they are human beings and deserve respect but that they have been "a model minority," then congratulations, you have actually implied that if they weren't, that would justify a mass expulsion.

Today's Tory motion continues their pattern of wrongly blaming migrants for everything - but they can't even get the basics right. When it comes to issues as sensitive as migration, getting the facts right really matters.

It is not possible to guarantee safety for a minority group except through a multicultural society. This is a basic fact of hard reality. Wise up, Steve.

The Manchester synagogue attack is a story of mass immigration and multiculturalism. We must bring an end to both.

Dolly Parton’s sister, Freida Parton, is asking for people to pray for her sister’s health.
Verified Facebook post by Freida Parton. The caption reads:

“Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly. Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me. She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you! ❤️”

Below the caption is a photo of Dolly Parton standing outdoors in front of lush green ivy, hands clasped in prayer, wearing a shiny silver outfit with lace-trimmed sleeves, her signature blonde hair styled in soft curls, looking upward serenely.

“The advantages of a first past the post system, of course, are that it prevents an overly fragmented parliament in which a stable governing majority cannot be found, and that it keeps the radical right down.”

One downside, for our political culture, of Labour's re-collapse in Scotland is the SNP's continued constituency dominance will mean continued gormless anti-PR (and anti-democratic) ravings from people who otherwise would have had to change their tune about list MSPs pretty sharpish, e.g. see this:
A projection for the next Scottish Parliament election based on a poll in late June 2024. It shows Labour winning 53 seats to the SNP's 40; of the 40 for the SNP, a majority of 25 are from the lists, and just 15 from constituencies.

Relatedly: Murdo Fraser's patter is rank on its own merits, he is in fact a duly elected member of the Scottish Parliament just like all other 128 members, just because you don't like him doesn't mean he isn't, he's elected on the same basis as every other MSP: the party logo next to his name

You should stop giving people columns when they start writing stuff like this

Which btw was months ago, this is not new, but you cannot get a clearer indication of someone's brain rotting than "Catholic starts obsessively batting for organisation that exists to discriminate against Catholics"

if Kevin McKenna has a bet on what the most absurd thing he can submit and the Herald will still publish, he’s winning handsomely

I was all set to begrudgingly vote for Humphreys, because I think Connolly *will* make multiple large unforced errors as President.
BUT…
Anyone who equivocates even a little bit on human rights is dead in the water for me.
Congratulations to Catherine Connolly, I guess?

Oh she can fuck right off "That legislation [the Gender Recognition Act 2015] was actually not passed by me, it was passed by a previous Minister. And the legislation is in place. And maybe it does need to be looked at.”"

Back to the actual and current Presidential candidates -with all the Jim Gavin shenanigans of the last 24 hours it may have not grabbed people’s attention that Heather Humphreys just threw trans people under the bus in response to a Grift dot ie reporters question! So there’s that! #aras25 #speirgorm

This is a party with virtually the same number of MPs as Reform (4 v. 5).

The way the BBC is treating Reform, compared to the Lib Dems and the Greens, is a dereliction of their duty as a public broadcaster.
