A map of Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man which shows how the phrase "How are you" translates into many dialects of Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Manx Gaelic

Renamed not banned. British hacks deliberately stoking trouble in Northern Ireland for clicks is crass.

It's no bother at all, I'll do that now

In one podcast series (that's not yet over) we have
the former NI Sec of State saying there should be a border poll in the next few years, Paisley saying he's open to discussing a United Ireland, and the former Taoiseach saying that our Government is obstructing it.

Amen to that. If/when the bubble pops it should be quite a spectacle.

“Following the release of the recent BBC podcasts the Democratic Unionist Party wishes to make clear that Mr Ian Paisley is appearing in this series in his own personal capacity and not on behalf of the Democratic Unionist Party.”

The DUP has been forced to issue a press release distancing itself from Ian Óg Paisley who says that while he feels that the case has not yet been made, he is now open to discussion on the reunification of Ireland. 😶

The Former UK Sec. of State for NI Shaun Woodward has caused conniptions by going on the Nolan Show and saying in regards to a border poll:

“We are approaching the point when the people of Northern Ireland should be entitled to express their view.”

When asked how soon: “In the next few years.”

The Common and the Goose is an anonymous English poem from around the mid 18th century which tells of how common land was legally stolen and privatised by enclosure.
The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
But leaves the greater villain loose
Who steals the common from the goose.

The law demands that we atone
When we take things we do not own
But leaves the lords and ladies fine
Who take things that are yours and mine.

I'm now the 3rd most famous statistician in Cork named Darren, largely due to social media. They can never take that away.

The Living Alone Allowance has remained at €22.
There has also been no increase in the Household Package which remains at €1.15 per day to help with either gas OR electricity.
These would be the two main 'supports' payable all year available to People with disabilities reliant on SW who live alone.

And why is it means tested based on your partner's income if you cohabitate? I am disabled and can't work and yet I can't marry or even live with my partner of almost four years or I'll be forced to depend on his income which, through no fault of his, is not large enough to support two people.
melissabreen.bsky.social
The Basic Income for the Arts Scheme is €325 a week, similar to what they gave out during the pandemic. This is how much they've deemed one needs in order to live in Ireland. So why is disability benefit only €244? Why are disabled and sick people expected to live so far below the poverty line?

Hang on, how is a gov TD also the President of the Vintners Federation?

It provides "representation for the trade with all relevant stakeholders, including Government".
But he is gov?

Does he talk to himself in the mirror while critising his own gov's budget?

In Ireland political donations may only be made by those resident in the State, registered for tax & on the electoral register. The max. any elector may donate pa is €6,350 to a party, €2,540 to a candidate. Donations >€100 are published. Absent that or a written constitution the UK seems wide open.

With apologies, because it’s scary, because it really is scary: latest in my project of messing with stills from ICE vids. Stylizing them to sharpen the focus on the aesthetic project of fascist terror. Chicago today, aiming at a protester named Jess, for documenting him.

I'm shocked Fine Gael picked John Clendennen to go out and defend the VAT cut

he owns a pub and glamping business and was the president of the Vintners' Federation when he was elected. his sister replaced him on board after his term ended

it's a VAT cut for him personally

This is one I meant. Their latest idea (which comes from McSweeney and Streeting via Blue Labour) to appear "tough on welfare" by having a go at people struggling with their mental health and also neurodivergent people can only make this worse.
troybairn.bsky.social
Starmer making catastrophic error. It is not the far right taking his votes, it is the pro-European parties (Grn+LD+SNP+PC).

Voting intention of GE2024 Labour voters (YG; 5-6 October):

Lab 57%
Grn* 13%
LD* 13%
Ref 7%
Con 4%
SNP* 1%
PC* 1%

Loss to pro-EU* = 28 pp
Loss to far right = 11 pp

Yougov also demonstrated that people who voted UK Labour in 2024 but now intend to vote for another party have opted for more progressive parties (Green, LibDem, Plaid Cymru, SNP) over 2.5x as much as they have Farage/Tory. Winter fuel cuts, two child cap, Gaza being major drivers.
andrew.sharpe.scot
Indeed. Latest YouGov Westminster voting intentions show the Tories 5th in Scotland, and SNP way out in 1st at 44%. The other three England-based parties all around 14%. Increasingly different to England.

Polls for Holyrood next year are showing Scottish Greens vying for 2nd after the SNP.
