I think the reason we have not seen Frey, Her, and Walz change their orientations on exercising the use of state policing power to repel the federal occupation is that to do so would be to admit the State Patrol, National Guard, MPD, SPPD, et al., are de facto not actually under their command.

I know it comes off as provincial bellyaching, but I think flattening this to just “Minneapolis” does a real disservice in expressing just how wide and massive this is, with twice as many of them as all the cops in both cities, combined.

What this administration is doing is accelerating and building on what already existed. This is disorienting, I know. We have to do what we can to protect each other locally while we also seriously address the foundational issues. This country has to disempower policing. I hope people understand now
