Not to be a wide-eyed naïf about such things but... am I right in thinking that they levelled an entire building to get to one guy and *that* is not controversial to anyone in the American media or political class, only that this information was recklessly shared in an unsecured chat?

They hope that many countries will suffer w/o their support. This is a macro level of what they voted for domestically. They voted for the suffering of “out-groups”. Their actions are led by the desire to be the tallest standing whilst others are kneeling or prostrate, dead.
It's truly astounding that Republicans can stand by and watch the US lose its global standing, any prestige we had, our good will, our respect, our world aid programs like USAID that help so many people, all because they want in on the greed and corruption that the Orange Manbaby brings. Shameful!

One day boycotts do not work, you need sustained action. Do not use Amazon, do not use uber eats, do not use target - ever.

What I would like from journalists is some analysis and investigation into why everyone is trying to be Putin or Trumps plaything and selling their countries right now. Not the empty parroting.

It is obvious but worth repeating that regimes built on lies survive only as long as they can suppress truth. The promotion of complicit media (alternative facts) & denigration of objective media (facts) is not just desirable but essential. This process is being turbo-charged in the USA right now.

The latter on all three of the Novara hosts. Shills, self serving and self important. Institute for investigative journalism is basically the only place to find some decent journalists.

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.
This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.
Just filed an article about the upcoming German elections (out on Sunday) and what strikes me is how timid much of the institutional pushback against the far-right has been. Some people have distinguished themselves but for the most part it’s just been really complacent - really disappointing.
