A recent essay, “The Great Feminization,” posits that the growing influence of women is harming U.S. institutions. Sophie Gilbert argues that the real problem facing American culture is quite different: https://theatln.tc/kUfY14fc

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

a fun game to play with BLS numbers is to go “that’s stupid, why do they do it that way” and then go find the paper explaining why they do it that way to see if you still think it’s stupid, and if you do, you win

I am like 0 for 19 lifetime at this game
We know Trump lies all the time, but it feels important that reporters covering his politicization of employment data make sure to point out that even his stated reasons are bullshit!

This seems sad
whole thing seems fairly low energy? and maybe overshadowed by a mix of No Kings and the attack in Minneapolis that Trump helped inspire.
It’s 6:04 p.m. in D.C., and we have parading. Crowd has filled in a bit at the route front, but mainly one deep along Constitution Avenue.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

One way of looking at yesterday is that Trump forgot the lesson of the law firms and universities. Go after one country at a time and that country is in a jam. Go after literally every country in the world at once, including the penguin countries, and you’re in the jam.
