He takes the name personally. 😤

"Did you just call me basic?"

This Common Yellowthroat seems to take real issue with his species name. He is staring me down like he’s ready to fight the entire ornithology department.

For example, when you come across someone who has changed their mind based on a technically incorrect understanding of something, the urge to correct their misunderstanding is counterproductive if they are now on the same page you are.

This is when pedantry stops being annoying and becomes harmful

Today brought a steady stream of Cardinals, Blue Jays, Juncos, and Chickadees, all taking turns at the #birdfeeder in what looked like a cheerful game of “musical perches”.

But no Mourning Doves. Since 1 died flying into my patio door yesterday, the flock hasn’t returned.

Yesterday brought one of the rare sunny days we’ve had since Nov. The milder air hinted at Spring, though winters chill lingered in the wind.

The sunlight fell perfectly on Ms Cardinal, illuminating her vibrant colors and making her stand out.

I've been wanting to get a nice shot of our photogenic buck. This buck showed up towards the end of the rut season and seemingly won?! His doe was about 20ft away and they travelled together.

The Absurd December US heatwave is ending. Last 7 days: 4700 heat records (mins & maxs) vs only 55 cold records.
7 day anomalies up to +25° F. Dozens of monthly records smashed.
The heat dome was forced by a very blocky global pattern, but the intensity is virtually impossible b4 climate change.
