Non-vintage champagne for all but me.

I write about the weird and the beautiful on Substack at https://lacachette.substack.com/
Someone spilled a Celsius at the gym this morning and the whole place smelled like nail polish remover - what is IN that stuff?

my theory of gattaca is that it is almost entirely soundtrack driven, and my favorite part is that they wear suits and ties to go to SPACE
gattaca is mostly bad because of genetic surveillance state, but also no one can deliver on gattaca style surgically precise artificial selection of complex traits that Americans are obsessed with. such businesses exist because the public imagines gattaca, which makes it tantamount to fraud

it is significant to me that his real world season seems to have been scrubbed from the internet, like tears in the rain
out of all of the trump administration officials, sean duffy is the one that is the most thoroughly irritating

I, for one, would like to know if anyone has bought a cat tunnel for their dog. And then, what about one of those plush yurts?

I would ideally like to get Pretzel a tunnel and stick a yurt on top, so that she can run in circles and then go to bed.
Too many people see this as a personal activism platform and not a microblogging website where you get to talk about the stuff you like and your lunch as well. Treating it as a misery pipeline just makes you miserable to be around. Go post a photo of your pet and a song you wanna talk about.
If I had to diagnose the cause of the "Bluesky malaise" as @kleinman.bsky.social calls it, I would describe it as a lot of people without the skills or resources or interest in journalism or activism mistakenly believing that being performatively miserable all the time will net the same results.

what the fucking fuck
Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

New wife guy just dropped (into Drearburh).
My wife’s favorite book is Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, and for her birthday this year I made her a Gideon custom figure and diorama

"Why is there grade inflation? Why do our courses lack rigor?'

"Also we will immediately throw any graduate student TA or instructor who upsets an influential constituency under the bus, no matter how obviously manufactured their outrage is." 🤷‍♂️
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

I actually think this is not unrelated to the popularity of Dan Brown novels
tired of hearing sermons where the Hebrew or Greek is mentioned as some secret revelation the congregation won’t be aware of, about what the reading *actually* means, and it never stands up to basic scrutiny when checked afterwards.

Sometimes the Bible translators have *shock horror* got it right

Gideon the Ninth!
[old professor voice] a key thing to understand about Western culture is a remarkable amount of mental energy has been dedicated to wondering “what if we put a hot girl in church?”
