Thank you so much to everyone who's shared & donated for your generosity. The fundraiser's at 82% to Archita's goal and support has slowed a lot. She'd be most grateful if people keep sharing & giving so she can reach her goal & get some security in this terrible time.
Fellow Calcuttan writer/editor Archita Mittra is in desperate need of financial help. She recently lost her father, her home was damaged in the recent rains, & her mother's in hospital. They don't have insurance, & she's a freelancer. I can vouch for her. Please share widely & donate:

Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

If you want to start a newsletter and don't want to use Substack because they currently platform/sponsor Nazis: consider using the free and open-sourced alternative that has been around for over a decade.

I'll personally walk you through it.
The Alternative to Medium/Substack - Sharpie Posts
Stop using closed-sourced solutions and move towards free and open-sources options that scale better, especially for indie creators.

This masochistic clown story by Sara S. Messenger is a cracking read. I always pop when unions and strikes are part of a story, especially when it's not overly-didactic. Also Sara is a real one for using her bio to encourage support for Palestinian liberation.

SFF people also take notice that an author who writes SFF (published in places like @apexmag.bsky.social @fiyahlitmag.bsky.social @strangehorizons.bsky.social) is on the longlist for the National Book Award for Poetry, this is not very common!

Attention #AcademicSky Everyone is talking about books, but thousands of academic journals were also pirated and are entitled to up to $3,000 *per pirated volume!!!* if editors submit titles to join the suit. Incredible opportunity for underfunded journals to get some $$! #SkyStorians #MedievalSky

A bit I missed in the Authors Guild explainer earlier is that they say the settlement goes to both beneficial and legal copyright owners, so the publishers may get some of the money. So publishers who neglected to register (ie did not staff properly to make that happen) screwed themselves, too.

Many authors have searched The Atlantic's LibGen database of pirated titles to see if they are listed there. However, I've uncovered that authors of short fiction aren't always discoverable there.

Here's how I discovered more of my short fiction in the list. 1/
