There used to be a common homophobic line from parents of gay kids: “Being gay is fine, but it will make their life harder, so I’d rather they weren’t.”
I THINK most of us understand now why this was homophobic. But the same line gets trotted out about #autistic people & no one blinks.

This is a really interesting piece that does a great job of showcasing the wild misconceptions and stereotypes that influence Irish views on immigration.
(Stereotypes which - by the way - share some strong similarities with American conceptions of Irish immigrants in the 19th century.)

If you had to swap characters from any 2 franchises, who would cause the most chaos in the other's world and why?
Garak (DS9) + Jujubee (Drag Race).
Garak would slay the competition, literally AND figuratively.
Jujubee would throw shade, fail miserably to be sneaky, & her cats would wreak havoc.

This gets at one of the things that really disturbs me about AI use & discourse: so much of it is about enabling self sufficiency in place of support from one's community. Which is understandable, as we live in a society that idolizes self sufficiency. But we lose a LOT by succumbing to this:
I see a lot of people try to counter this with "but I'm a writer, I can't paint a book cover/pay artists" or w/e, as though the bar for entry has EVER been "complete polymath" or "rich."
I made a lot of friends back in the 00s and 10s collaborating on creative projects out of the love of the game.

If you use AI to create your art, your story, your whatever, I immediately know you don’t care about making things — you only care about selling them.

I saw Radiohead in Mexico City. During Kid A, this guy next to me starts yelling SUPER LOUDLY at his buddy, "ya güey, pásame la mota" ("dude, pass me the joint!"). Multiple times, no less.
I thought about murdering him, but tbh I was too amused. Especially since bro knew every word to every song!

I'm heading to Nine Inch Nails on Sunday to CHAT TO MY FRIENDS. I'm not there for the music, gigs aren't about the music, please don't be narrow minded & assume everybody is there for music. I've paid €100 to catch up with my friends, with industrial rock blasting in the background, as is my right

Between the Madleen and the protestors in LA, there are an awful lot of people out there who I'm worried about right now, who are trying their best to do something good and likely facing violence as a result. Sending all the solidarity their way.

The swell of donations on Thursday into Friday was incredible, but one good day sadly isn't enough. Heba and Mohammed need financial help every day. Please donate if you can. One Kilo of flour is $35USD (or it was a week or two ago probably more now) and to get that they need $81CAD donated.
Tomorrow (10th June) is the start of Eid al-Adha, the biggest Muslim celebration of the year. Usually they would get new clothes & visit family. Mohammed is upset he can't provide that this year, Jihad (3) is upset that there are no cakes. But they can barely afford flour...

The government spent €300k to traumatise schoolchildren by deporting their friends. Because "law and order," or something.
