"Get out of your comfort zone," they said to the person who has no comfort zones.
Non-autistic people continually tell autistic people how to suffer properly throughout our lives. Don't worry, we already know how! We do it more often than you do even, all by ourselves!
A couple weeks ago a well meaning colleague of mine told me "If you don't put yourself in uncomfortable situations you'll never learn" and I have been seething in autistic ever since.

What this means, I gather, is something like "take advantage of chosen, purposeful, supported challenges"

That was a fork in the road in my career. In those six months, I went from "we just need to get it out!" to "we just need to make sure it works and will be easy to change", and - it turns out - *that's* how you "get it out" sooner.

It's like a magic trick.

Let’s talk about “Move fast and break things.” First of all, Facebook itself changed its motto to “Move fast with stable infrastructure” in 2014. So much for breaking things, at least if you’re a soulless corporate behemoth.

"It's really good at summarising code I don't understand".

But, weirdly, it's pretty bad at summarising code I *do* understand.

I’m seeing some undiagnosed people recognizing themselves in the experience described. I encourage those who do to consider pursuing ADHD assessment. Many who remain undiagnosed into adulthood internalize views of themselves as “broken,” when the reality is they have a neurodevelopmental difference.

Teams who measure "productivity" by output - code, commits, Pull Requests - are likely to fall into the trap of believing the code-generating firehose is making them go faster.

Teams who measure their productivity by *outcomes* usually see a different picture.

Switch your scopes to Outcome Vision.

🔥 ADHD guilt hits hardest when you rest

You think you should be doing something else.

Try this:

🛑 Write “Rest” on your to-do list

📋 Add 3 things to your Not Today list

💤 Let your brain power down

Rest counts as real work too. 💚

I'm building Arcaml, basically the r-cade game engine from Racket in OCaml right now. I try to create a native backend (which is already somewhat working) and a web backend so you can use it for small game jams. The API is giga trivial. You just pass a config struct, init, update and a draw

If you demand that people control something they can't control, then expect them to control something else. If the mandate is "No Bugs!" without any social or technical change, then expect a response like "no *reported* bugs".

I get the point that's trying to be made here, but it's actually inaccurate. The *MAJORITY* of actual practitioners in the tech industry have a position that is neither of these, it's merely getting drowned out by these two loud positions. The most common belief in the tech industry is simple:
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.
