We are all drowning in a pool of systemic propaganda so I understand why the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti feel esp shocking and I think it is important to do the internal work of asking yourself, if this applies to you, why the deaths of immigrants/Black folks don't shock in the same way

People here are outside patrolling their neighborhoods in this, trying to keep their neighbors safe from lawless armed masked goons. Armed with whistles and vests, they are essentially fighting a war against their own government and its ethnic cleansing campaign.

The American far-right hates that. They think their utopia runs through an isolated, U.S. ethnostate. They hate the Atlantic Charter because they’re fascists who despise pluralist rule-of-law democracies.

Trump, OTOH, is just a narcissistic, sociopathic crook.

The obstruction of our elected members of Congress is truly frightening. It reminds me of January 6. Feels like watching a coup in slow motion.
Three Members of Congress showed up to inspect the actions of federal officers in their state and the federal officers drew their weapons?
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.

Hey, Ezra Klein, is this doing politics wrong?

Blessed be the canvassers.
On day 8 of our Administration, @governor.ny.gov and I announced the beginning of universal childcare in NYC. No longer will New Yorkers be forced to choose between starting a family and continuing to live in the city they love. This only happened because of you.

The trick is to make the case for the second (she deserved execution) while "officially" promoting the first (he acted in self-defense).

We've seen this before, both in the context of past ICE shootings and the death of minorities at the hands of police.

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

Vance's stance is, almost literally, "Well, she shouldn't have mouthed off like that. She asked for it."
When Vance insists, contra the videos, that Good threatened the ICE agent and "had it coming", what he means is that he, like Ross, feels threatened by any woman who has the audacity to use her voice in the public sphere.

This deeply misogynist worldview is core to MAGA.

Fuck this bullshit
Absolute bullshit, and authors, if Harlequin has your foreign rights, you should also complain.
French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

Agreed.
Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

I love when a choice to change the smallest habit leads to an amazing surprise discovery.

She created her own chance for adventure 💕
I was running early to an event so I got off BART a stop early at Powell Street for an extra walk.

Instead I sat and listened to a wonderful pianist play for 20 minutes. At one point another person came up and asked if they could play together, and they did.

I love music on transit ❤️🎶

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

This is so scary. Suggests that our military is beholden to an oligarch, without review without limit without accountability.
If members of the United States military are truly being paid their salaries by a private individual, the American people should know who that individual is. Now.
