I think folks believe we are deflecting blame to our elders when we say this. Rather, we are saying that social Darwinism was normalized. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” That sort of thing.

And if any kid was fat, they were doomed to be targets. Even the TEACHERS mocked the fat kids sometimes! It was pretty bad. And that honestly got even worse in the fatphobic 90’s.

I think it’s nice ICE is the proxy for immigration enforcement reform, but pretty clear border patrol has become a lawless mess over several more lawless administrations and we need to rebuild that from the ground up even more urgently than ICE
