I don’t think they intend to learn/relearn this…it doesn’t serve their interests.

I fear recognition of the upcoming collapse of habitats & food security due to climate change and jobs due to AI/tech is driving many governments' lurch to the right in preparation: close borders, deport people, cut welfare, ignore the poor/sick/old, ban protests (for when the public realises)...

Why are they allowed to write their own puff pieces?
stefansiebert.bsky.social
The fact that the UK govt blocks a report on the impact of rainforest collapse in south America says so much:

1. They know climate change and the impacts are real and will be deadly

2. Instead of planning for solutions, their response is to:
- suppress the information
- block refugees

The global south and most of the world will never forgive the current US government and their enablers (esp Musk) for this one!

This is among other things a product of how far UK Conservative and Reform Party MPs and Spads have become so marinated in Right wing American social media that they have adopted its view of unis as a source of radicalisation tempting youth away from the moral purity of National Conservative thought

Every one of these lives mattered but to see this includes eleven children is heartbreaking. The amount of national resource required to solve this problem is so relatively small that Government should just spend it immediately (as it has before!)

UK deaths of 1,611 homeless people in 2024 is record high
Most are linked to suicide or drugs, with spice and nitazines increasingly deadly.

People seeking asylum are not the problem.

The problems are incompetent governments & billionaires who are profiting from human misery.

Be angry at them.

Richest 1% has more wealth than 70% of UK population combined.

Top 20% own two-thirds of wealth, receive 36% of income.

Bottom 20% own 0.5% of wealth, receive 9% of income.

Can't grow economy or have social stability.

Poverty is political choice. Which political party wants to address this?
The government must ensure fair distribution of income

This piece poses as a collective statement from former US surgeon generals.

Thanks to Kennedy, we are facing the biggest barrage of misinformation in decades, that will cost us.

He is entitled to his views, but he is not entitled to put our collective health at risk.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

So according to Jenrick, 'not integrated' means black/brown faces outnumbering white faces. How very dare they. Nothing to do with whether they're actually integrated – just what they look like.

Absolutely shameful.

He'll probably become Tory leader.

Jenrick says, Handsworth the area I went to school in isn’t integrated as he didn’t see a white face and the closest he has seen to a slum? So is he saying we should pay minorities much more for their low paid jobs and welcome them to The Cotswolds with their mosques and temples???

🚨🚨 "The ECHR is not some foreign imposition that curtails our sovereignty. It was born of British leadership after the horrors of the Second World War, drafted with heavy British influence, and championed by Winston Churchill himself". Great stuff by Sir Robert Buckland KC:

That graph also sums up perfectly what happened to the NHS during peak covid pandemic and why it struggles/cannot return to previous baseline.

Running bed occupancy and capacity close to 100% in normal times means there is no resilience in the system for any stressor events.

She was arrested for holding a sign reading:

“I do not support the proscription of Palestine Action”

How that would warrant arrest is very unclear. I wonder if the police here even understand the boundaries of the bizarre law they’ve been forced to enforce.
