Immigration has very little to do with the social and political problems in our society.

This article is clear as to why.

Social media and some mainstream media have magnified the malignant rhetoric of the far right to creat a very false impression. Please look at the data.
Are the UK's problems caused by immigration? Don't think so. Here I channel the spirit of, of all people, the great Age of Enlightenment explorer and scientist Alexander von Humboldt, on whom I am forming quite a crush...

So Netanyahu played politics to find favour with Trump. How many thousands of Palestinians died as a result? How many of the hostages would still be alive if a cease fire had been agreed a year ago?

Looks like a clear but non-confrontational way to respond.

Under UK law, a company can make £200m+ in sales and still hide its profit & loss by calling itself “small”.

That’s how PPE Medpro kept its finances secret.

Bolsonaro had a lot in common with Trump. Populist leaders, aggressive politics, inability to acknowledge electoral defeat. Trump’s attack on Capitol led to six deaths. As far as I know, no one actually died in Bolsonaro’s attempted coup, though assassination was part of his plan. It is a sad …

I have just finished reading #BabysBreath which is @russincheshire ‘s first novel.
It is pacy and gripping from the outset, with multiple unexpected twists and turns. A remarkable story all the more so for being the first novel and written by a man in England.

Absolutely spot on.

“President Zelensky could end the war immediately” by surrendering, accepting all his troops died in vain and setting the stage for the next Russian attack.

Putin could end the war immediately by cancelling all military action.
Trump blaming the victim, as usual. How about “President Putin of Russia can end the war with Ukraine almost immediately if he wants to”? Unlike Trump, some of us do remember how the war started - with Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea & his acts of aggression in the Donbas.
Absolutely any war can always be ended "almost instantly" if you want - for this it is enough to simply capitulate. In fact, Trump directly accuses Ukraine of not capitulating.

Johnson was obviously unfit for office before he was PM, and events proved this. Farage is also obviously unfit for office, professional journalists must not repeat their mistakes.
“Whatever happens, the damage that has already been done by the constant media indulgence of Farage and his divisive, inflammatory and outright racist views will take many years for this country to recover from.”

Yes. A disgraceful, unforgivable failure.

A long but well-argued piece.
I hope Keir Starmer reads it.
"To meet an ever more radical right halfway, the Labour Party has had to take on much, much more illiberal positions than anything countenanced previously." Moderation can become appeasement, and appeasement can become affirmation. A warning from the UK:
When Moderation Becomes Appeasement
If your chief goal is to find a middle ground with the far right on social issues, you’ll end up condoning its values—just ask Keir Starmer.
