"On Wednesday, Mr. Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, rode the full route of the M57, a crosstown bus that traverses Midtown Manhattan and is one of the city’s slowest, to remind New Yorkers that he wanted to speed up their commutes."

“In a city once choked with cars and infamous for its traffic snarls, Paris has pulled off a remarkable turnaround…the French capital has officially become Europe’s best city for children to walk, cycle, and move around independently.” Via @momentummag.bsky.social

Rampant, flagrant illegal parking isn’t just a huge quality-of-life problem, it puts people in danger. Thank you @cmrestler.bsky.social for refusing to accept this as normal.

Our office released a new study highlighting rampant illegal parking across Downtown Brooklyn. Vehicles block sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes & loading zones - making it more dangerous for New Yorkers to get around the neighborhood.

New Yorkers are craving secure bike parking: this one small station has had 2,000 unique users in just two years!

More of these units — and larger facilities — will mean that more New Yorkers will have the peace of mind to try biking, without having to worry about theft.

Last month we celebrated the two year anniversary of Oonee Hudson Square with local BID.

Personally, on this journey I am most proud of the way that NYC communities have embraced our initial bike parking stations-- hard 2 believe that ppl were once skeptical bc they were afraid of blowback.

Glad to see the 15 mph e-bike speed limit is keeping our streets safe.

Today on Flatbush/Clarkson. This kind of wreckage should not be possible on residential streets.

5th Ave open street on a glorious afternoon. More of this everywhere, please.

Nary an example of any battling for space or anything remotely dangerous in the three videos and two photos included in the story.

And please stop giving ink to EVSA; their opposition to universal daylighting belies any claims that they're interested in "safety."

This is really so funny because if you write about cities people seem to want all the good urban examples to come from Scandinavia, but also then insist they won't work here, when there are plenty of good US examples that can work here

Like Scandinavian...but brown.

The majority of 253 traffic deaths last year in NYC took place at an intersection. Death after death, every intersection that DOT drags their feet to daylight more NYrs die.

Daylighting is a trusted, proven street safety measure adopted from Paris to San Francisco. If I were DOT commissioner, I wouldn’t wait for another person to die to daylight our streets.

So much for the "crackdown" on fake and obscured license plates.
streetspac.org
On the same day that the Adams administration implemented a 15-mph speed limit for e-bikes, these poor people were crushed by someone driving around the city with a novelty license plate. NYC needs real leadership, not asinine scapegoating and demagoguery.

We need real solutions, not bizarre vendettas. New Yorkers are still waiting on high-quality bike infrastructure, delivery app regulation, and a point-of-sale restriction for the fastest and heaviest e-bikes on the road.

It's especially galling that the mayor is ramming through this ridiculous rule while the ability to slow down the dangerous drivers that are killing New Yorkers sits on his desk — only 2% of eligible streets have speed limit reductions under Sammy’s Law.

Why should a person on a bike get a criminal summons for traveling 16 mph, while the driver of a 5,000 pound SUV doesn't even receive a ticket for speeding at 35 mph?

Mayor Adams continues his war on biking with this backward rule — despite >90% of public comments opposing it.

NYC DOT is holding three more public events to gather feedback on their proposal for a comprehensive redesign on and around Canal Street in Manhattan, intended to enhance pedestrian safety, expand the bicycle network, create open space, and calm traffic. More here: www.nyc.gov/html/dot/dow...
