Incidentally, we already have access to a fusion reactor. It's about 93 million miles away and the power can be harvested by anyone on the planet. Doesn't even need maintenance. You can tap in for a ridiculously low cost; no utility company required.

Solar power is really fusion power.

Unpopular opinion this might be on Bluesky, but while the government does bear some responsibility for any potential deaths here (they are, after all, managing the prison system), the greater responsibility lies with journalists and commentators who have egged the hunger strikers along

The clean energy transition is turning into a power struggle. Countries built on fossil fuels are pushing back, while others are racing ahead on renewables.

The battle over a global energy transition is on between petro-states and electro-states – here’s what to watch for in 2026
While wind and solar energy led in investments globally, liquefied natural gas is also booming. A former climate envoy for Germany explains what’s coming and the countries to watch.

Boosting Venezuela’s oil output by 500,000 barrels a day would cost $10bn and take 2 yrs

Raising production to 1.5mn barrels of oil a day (from current 1mn) would produce 550mn tons of CO2 a year

That's more CO2 than is emitted by countries like UK & Brazil

Why are the media (uk) talking about US companies developing oil fields in Venezuela instead of why this is not a good idea.
The world needs less fossil fuel exploitation and more renewable & environment friendly energy investment.
Also, the oil in Venezuela still belongs to Venezuela not the US.

This explains so much.
People with psychopathic traits and low cognitive ability are over-represented in online political activity.
If someone is being cruel, obnoxious and ridiculous, don't try to reason with them. Chances are you won't get anywhere. Just block.

Very cool work alert! It’s concerning that the most influential comms strategies did not nudge proenv beh, when we have found climate disinfo *decreases* proenv beh, even against some of the “successful” comms strategies www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We still have room & need for improvement!

What if instead of killing people for oil we just put up some solar panels and some wind turbines. You know, the cheapest form of energy

When people argue that renewable energy sources are too expensive, remember that we don’t invade countries to seize wind farms and there are no solar cartels. Fossil fuels have enormous geopolitical, public health, and climate externalities.

Many Venezuelans may be delighted to see back of Maduro, but still resent US plan to take over their country and exploit its assets. Resistance will grow and chaos ensue if US fails to draw back, or create stable space for the democratic opposition/Venezuelan people to determine their own future.

now, it might seem odd that political commentators who advocated for the uk to leave the eu because of their belief in “the nation state” to be supportive of america’s annexation of venezuela, but what you have to remember is that those people didn’t actually think that, they were lying for money

A huge improvement on the current practice of dodgy accounting where the emissions from things I sell abroad don’t count as mine & neither do the emissions from anything I import.
The climate is a physical system, it’s impossible to get it to do what you want by playing stupid games
