100% this! 🙌

“There is a certain intellectual laziness that settles at either extreme of the hype/skepticism spectrum. By failing to acknowledge both the utility and the dangers, we allow some to run untethered into mayhem while others wear blinders, convincing themselves it isn't happening.”

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

'Heritage American,' noun.

1) An American insufficiently committed to the founding values of the United States.
2) An American actively betraying those principles.
3) A white supremacist euphemism used by [2] to mean 'white people.'

December 25: A really great day to remind people who try and tell you otherwise that actually, Mithras didn’t even have a birthday—he was born from a rock 🪨—and Christmas really doesn’t have anything to do with Mithraism. Mythbusting: the gift that keeps giving historical truth.

There is no reason for the Universe to be beautiful.

It has no audience, no thesis. It intends to convey nothing.

The fact that it *is* beautiful—by accident, as the inevitable consequence of tiny things playing out largely simple rules over tremendous scales of space and time—comforts me.
This is a real image of a real thing that exists in the universe! And because a bunch of humans decided to get together and build a space telescope, we get to see it! 🤯
Very excited to share the NASA/ESA/STScI press release of our team's work on Apep! It's a terrific writeup, complete with a brand new beautiful visualisation of the nebula geometry.

I remember them cheering this during his first campaign. It was positioned as easing regulations to lower operating costs; and all the Democrats wanted to talk about was some stupid comments Trump made about his hair.
Coal miners speak out after the Trump administration removed black lung protections:

"They’re doing everything they can to hurt the working man. They ain’t worried about the miners or people in West Virginia or coal miners anywhere. All they’re worried about is the almighty dollar in DC."

Many sea stars begin life as young fairy-like creature (called a brachiolaria) that float through the open ocean. Eventually, a small star forms within them (here in yellow). The fairy-like brachiolaria sinks under the star’s weight, and the star pops out!

Bail. This isn't working out. Your big guy is billion years old and sundowning and Little JD ain't got it.

This isn't going to work. Bail.

I really think this is the way forward. Call me a defeatist all you want, but AI has entrenched itself among the general population in a way that NFTs never did; it’s here to stay. So let’s look for ways to make progress on the harms it currently causes.

Hunh. Bluesky internet detective fiction. I’m not entirely convinced it sticks the landing, but it was compelling enough for me to read through the whole—very long!—thing with the Bluesky app fighting me the whole way. Would definitely read more.
This is pretty astounding.
dragon lady next to me at the second life rave was too close and her wings kept clipping through my player model. I didn't mind but she apologied each and every time it happened. chat was filled with hundreds of variations of "oop sowwie >_<!! xoxo" and "uaah! not again! orz" by the end of the night

I finally read “Consider Phlebus” last year, and I honestly can’t tell if I enjoyed it or not; because all I felt on its completion was the horrifying realization of what the tech bros think they’re building.
Right-wingers and libertarians: Missing the point of progressive media for at least the last century. They are, after all, also the folks asking when Star Trek and the X-Men "became woke." 🙄
Why does Elon Musk love this socialist sci-fi series?
The broligarchs share a favorite author, but they might be missing the point entirely.

Show 12 Americans in a jury box the face of a deported American citizen toddler and see what they think is justice.

Get rid of the media, stop buying the merch and don't support new things cause it just lines that hateful transphobes pockets so she can continue to use her wealth for evil.
