Hey! You! Do you like... learning things? Do you like... laughing?? Do you like... being that annoying person in the conversation who gets to say "um ACTUALLY Einstein wasn't even that smart he couldn't even swim and he KEPT falling in the ocean and making people save him"?

Then you'll LOVE my book

rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

Sometimes I smile recalling that this was a real ad campaign Amazon put out, explaining how they have so many TV shows to watch "you'll never find yourself in a hole where you have nothing to watch", aka, a #ShowHole

Can't wait for all the free speech absolutists who especially worry about lady ones being cruelly cancelled to be all over this one
This is madness.

All books by Normal People and Conversations with Friends author Sally Rooney set to be withdrawn from sale.

The 34-year-old Irish author says: “The disappearance of my work from bookshops would mark a truly extreme incursion by the state into the realm of artistic expression.”
Sally Rooney books may be withdrawn from UK sale over Palestine Action ban, court told
Rooney has said she intended to use royalties from her work "to go on supporting Palestine Action."

"Western civilization," the font, the 11 stars - 11 states in the confederacy, for the record.

Why is this never news? Why are we letting our government agencies do this sort of thing while the news agencies report on hallucinated trade deals and act like everything is normal

Switched on BBC News and they’re crowing about how their investigation has led to the govt banning asylum seekers from using taxis to go see a doctor. Sick country.

JK Rowling got a full *decade* of press as a martyr for being "cancelled" (declared passe by people online) and meanwhile nobody considers it very interesting that a prominent left wing author is basically banned from entering or publishing in the United Kingdom for her politics
so this is like, one of the biggest free speech infringements by a western democracy in our lifetimes right?

My definition of woman includes some people wth 46XY karyotypes. Yours excludes them. Your definition is counter to law, culture, philosophy, identity, practice, anthropology and everyday facts. My definition is counter to... a bald assertion that a karyotype is necessarily determinative of sex.

what I find so interesting about AI meeting tools is that companies don't seem to mind meetings with sometimes sensitive company data just being recorded by random startups

what i love is that in 1990 judas priest got brought to trial over the claim that subliminal messages in the recording "better by you better than me" caused two suicides and now in 2025 openai seems to be generating a suicide a week with its superliminal messages and the US government is funding it

Let's see... £2m... Oxford...

Just this 6 bed, 4 bath, detached home with 6 reception rooms and a sprawling garden 10mins from the city centre.

"not all the height of luxury".

Rich people really just live in an entirely alternative reality to everyone else. It's absolutely wild.

If trans women are generally better than cis women at (some) sports (a claim which doesn't even seem to be straightfowardly true anyway), I simply don't care. Tall women are better than short women at sport, in general. Rich women better than poor women at sport, in general. *shrug*

Immigration creates jobs, supports public services, & drives growth.

These are economic facts.

How is it that the only days we *dont* have the media banging on about immigration is on the days we’re handed the budget? #r4today

Our conversation about immigration is framed entirely on Nigel Farage’s terms.
Labour has completely capitulated the ground to the far right, the racism & the hate.

We no longer have a conversation AT ALL about how we need immigration & when we cut it, we pay the price. #r4today

Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.

Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?

For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today

Good illustration on the 'migration doom loop'. This is applies to the whole of Europe (including the Netherlands)

Key point: When going through the doom loop, everything always gets worse: The economy does not improve, there is not less support for populists, and irregular migration does not stop
Today's migration stats illustrate the migration doom loop in action...
