This thread is full of words tasty to the tongue and the mind!
Quick thread of lost and forgotten words that we need to bring back:

“Overmorrow,” the day after tomorrow, and “yesterneve,” yesterday evening.

“Nodcrafty”: to nod along sagely when someone is talking, despite not having a clue what they’re banging on about.

Lots to take in here. One thing that strikes me is how much hate Nader got for vote-splitting in 2000, but he doesn't even rank on this graph.
Never seen it framed this way by all recent elections

🔥 @ninajankowicz.com: "Mr Taibbi said when he was first searching through the so-called Twitter files he didn't know what he was looking at. Well, he still doesn't. Everything looks like a conspiracy when you don't know how anything works."

They trained their model on a diverse body of excellent writing. . . and got the stupidest search tool I've ever encountered. Just another example of how the "plausible phrases" that LLMs spit out is NOT the same as "information."
Okay it may seem bad that Meta appropriated the entirety of the written word without compensating or even consulting with any writers, but consider what the world got out of it: a thing you accidentally tap in Instagram

Clear-eyed, evidence-based, historically inspired hope is my favorite kind.
Let’s talk about resistance after a conqueror takes power. Specifically let’s talk about this bendy yellow building, and what it shows us about the moment the Florentine Republic finally fell to its kleptocratic/proto-capitalist banking-fortune Medici conquerors 1/?

This is a helpful locator of nonprofit news orgs. findyournews.org Also I prefer the term “corporate media” over “mainstream” because it emphasizes the ownership and who they’re beholden to.

For Blue Monday we can't think of anything more appropriate than this charming depiction of a man getting his face eaten off by a leopard.

I've been thinking a lot about this They Might Be Giants song lately. For some reason.

Watching people say goodbye to TikTok and the communities they built there was really touching. But the next presidency is planning to wrench people from their homes and communities by force. Don't be distracted by deals to "save" TikTok.
