Hey remember how all of Mississippi was blocked on BlueSky due to an age verification law?! They're going to try to do that in Washington State! COMMENT and CALL on this one!

Washington State residents: they’re trying to pull online age verification bullshittery here too. This bill would require people to upload their ID/credit card to view online adult content. You can complain to your reps here: app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/bill/2112

I dunno man it doesn't really seem to me like "declaring an assembly unlawful" is the kind of thing that police should be considered to have the authority to do

It's a new year, and I am begging y'all to put captions on your streams. Don't know how? I got you.

Here's a thread of captioning options for your streams. With the exception of Meld that does not have a caption plug in (yet). These should work on other stream software.

Would be nice if people didn't feel the need constantly post screenshots of the worst takes from the worst people over on the bad place whenever bad things happen. There's a reason I don't follow those people! (I know, I know, we all can better curate our bsky feed, it's just been a lot lately).

The thing about logging off is that when you log back on and a friend texts you to ask, "why is everything awful" & you have most news stuff blocked on your phone you have to wonder if there's been a new fresh hell unleashed or if they're just remarking on the old hell you saw before you logged off

I think there are a few solid answers, but I'm going to place a vote here for She-ra and the Princesses of Power. Amazing, life-giving ending that had been carefully built to over 5 seasons. Unbelievably satisfying.

btw for those who don't know why Americans with chronic illness got like 75% more stressed on Jan 1st, it is not just because all the insurance rates blew up.

On 1/1, deductibles reset. which means you have to spend some amount of money (up to $10k sometimes) before your insurance COVERS ANYTHING

LEVERAGE seemed like a silly little show about crime, but it was so much more than. Brilliant writing and execution, @johnrogers.bsky.social at his best, and a cast that must have required a few sold souls. The finale was perfect. So was everything else.

Author fame accrues to the book, not to the face. There are at any moment only two or three truly A-level famous (living) authors, and one of them is always Stephen King.
Ha, thanks for the response! I'm glad you're at your comfort level! Years ago I worked for Borders & worked with a few authors & it always surprised me how they were rarely recognized, yet clearly "well known", at the very least. Like, how in the fuck do you not recognize Tom Wolfe?!

I love public health tools that save lives and improve quality of health just by silently existing. They're amazing.

I pulled up my list of books I read in 2025 casually thinking, "Oh, I should easily be able to just pick a couple favourites to mention,"... aaaaand then realized just how many books I read (over a hundred), so I only managed to narrow it down to nine favourites instead 😅

To be clear, these weren’t ticket sales because Netflix set up the contracts of the actors so they wouldn’t have to pay them for theater screenings. We can tiptoe around the wording however you want, but this was the studio continuing to profit off a bunch of former child stars with predatory terms.
