Yes, for sure. It's not that they *aren't* scared. It's that such a fear is a product of an ideological project. A project that gives cops carte blanche to transmute fear into violence, and which convinces people who should love their neighbors to instead fear them enough to excuse those cops.

2) "I think [progressive idea] is stupid despite clearly having only encountered the idea via woke teenagers arguing with twitter nazis."

It might be self-serving to say that if Harris had reversed her stance on Gaza she would have won, but a Harris campaign that promised to stop the genocide likely also takes a firmer stance on protecting trans people, immigrants, and social services. All together, *that* might have won.
confused about where contrapoints assigns agency, in her post. democrats supported a genocide - but it is the left's opposition to that genocide that helped reelect trump? the left distributing pictures and videos of atrocities in gaza has people in a rage - but what about the atrocities themselves?

I might have sympathy for this view if I didn't see these phrases deployed primarily by people with an obvious vested interest in maintaining the status quo (politicians offering platitudes in place of action, white liberals that think "defund the police" is too radical a slogan).
Every time someone responds to an obviously normative-aspirational claim ("this not who we are", "this is not America", etc) with some I'm-very-radical descriptive rebuttal ("er actually America has always done <similar bad stuff>") an angel dies. Like, no joke, dead. Direct causal result of this.
