As it happens, I have experience with high-level government demands to stop an explosive, accurate story from running, and I also have experience with 60 Minutes spiking a story I was involved in, so I have thoughts about the travesty at CBS. If you want some journalism anecdotes, here are a lot:

Notes from someone who's withstood White House demands to stop an explosive story—and who once even had a 60 Minutes piece spiked

Trumpers have a howling void of angry insecurity where a soul should be. Unchecked power tastes like ashes in their mouth because they thought when they got it everyone would be forced to like and admire them even though they’re irredeemable assholes. But people still treat them like assholes.

What the Puck: Ken Dryden was much more than just a great goalie
What the Puck: Ken Dryden was much more than just a great goalie
Dryden’s defining moment as a Canadien was his stunning debut in the spring of 1971, when he single-handedly beat that great Boston Bruins team. But he also wrote what most of us consider the greatest hockey book ever, The Game.

possibly the most important text to me as a kid, or as a person generally
Berkeley Breathed's "Bloom County" loomed so large over my young life that I simply cannot believe its initial run was only eight and a half years.

It filled the role that the Gaines/Kurtzman/Feldstein "Mad" magazine played for an earlier generation.

A foundational post-post-punk text, imho.

I think if you see someone reading in public and assume they’re doing it performatively that says rather more about you than it does them, and I think it’s bad for us to develop a cultural stigma around reading, a thing we shouldn’t be trying to discourage, in public or anywhere
Someone's really going to have to spell out exactly why reading a second hand book outside a coffee shop is bad/ "performative"
