periodically I'll see a backlash that goes a little too far or seems kinda unfair. i never say anything because i think we need to be kinda unhinged and zealous in our response to this shit. I'd take an honest-to-God crusade against this stuff over letting it proliferate.
We can do even more.

If youre working on something and worried it looks cheap or bad just remember they put a png of a dog in an ace combat 7 cut scene

Having now unintentionally marathoned the Ace Combat franchise in celebration of the AC8 announcement (I'd started last month borrowing a friend's PS2), I think the Strangereal games as a package are very interesting when viewed so closely together.

"We can't allow fact checkers into the country" is late-stage USSR shit, real end-of-empire stuff
Holy shit.

It's frightening how quickly you feel a difference when you remove social media from your phone. I've opted to not engage with Insta at all, while bsky and facebook (with news feed blocker, so just groups) are still on desktop for me. Tying the internet to a place makes it less omnipresent

it's weird to live in a world where a new 'worst thing you've ever imagined' happens at least a few times a month and it's easy to let it all run together and just sort of wash over you and go totally numb to all of it so you don't freak out because you still have to do laundry and go to work.

"no opinion" is in fact an opinion, and usually a dogshit one, especially when it comes to "our country is gonna bomb another one to do regime change"

The one thing that lockdown actually took from me was my local symphony was supposed to do the live soundtrack to Star Wars 7 like two months after it all started. Hearing the brass live as the X wings skim the lake on Takodana would have been worth the cost of admission

Fwiw my wife works with a nonprofit that serves lower-income families in the Boston area and the amount of gratuitous and destructive cruelty now being dealt to the folks she works with is totally insane.

Driving across the country teaches you things

Like that, in spite of having all sorts of taxes for infrastructure including one of the highest gas taxes in the US, Indiana might well have the worst roads east of the Mississippi

Where is the money going

This isn't speaking from a place of PC elitism but, genuinely, what is the value proposition of current generation consoles anymore? $7-800 plus 100/year to play online is just asinine

Like, you can get a pretty solid PC for that kind of $, and that lets you use GOG and Steam. I just don't get it

Comments on a video I saw recently show there's a surprising paranoia from a nonzero number people about oily rags spontaneously combusting

While it's good that people are cautious, only certain oils (like linseed) polymerize exothermically which can cause ignition, not just the presence of oil

As someone for whom coffee was a load bearing portion of their daily routine, it really chaps me that switching to tea and generally reducing my caffeine dependency has genuinely improved how I feel and especially how I sleep and now I wouldn't have it any other way

YouTube shorts has chosen to remind me how darn good of an episode the Heroes two-parter was in Stargate. Show had a lot of range and could pull off some great emotion when it wanted to

The audacity of this woman is breathtaking.
Like, we're supposed to feel sorry for *her* and how her life is being impacted, yet she's a "Proud Conservative" who voted for this.
What did she think was going to happen?
