I'm actually disappointed that #SoloLeveling got #animeoftheyear Was it cool? Hell yeah! Did it deserve the award over #Frieren or #ApothecaryDiaries ? Absolutely tf NOT. These 2 had actual quality storytelling and drama that was lacking in SL. Unfortunately, straight men are allowed to vote 😒🙄

So often I’ll see horror short fiction calls for submission that demand that the writer doesn’t write anything “political” or feature “upsetting subject matter” and at some point you have to wonder how you can expect art to be made at all if all the edges are sanded off.

I’m not a fan of this uptick in retooling fanfiction for publishing. Fanfic relies on an IP foundation and exists in conversation with other fics and readers. Stripped of that, what’s often left are hollow worlds and characters that lack the depth to fully interact with their settings.
