Sorry, but a lack of support for autonomous vehicles is not among Sec Pete's biggest missed opportunities at USDOT.

an example of what we mean when we talk about “car brain”: presupposing that every description of streets and street usage (i.e. traffic) is about cars and cars only.

Just had the mind melting argument raised that “bus lanes and bike lanes block streets” and it’s like, um, you see all those bikes zipping past you when you’re stuck in traffic behind other cars? You see how they’re moving? Yeah. So they don’t block streets. They move people efficiently.

Advocates and people on bikes are also not a monolith. I found it telling that enough people outside of the advocacy sphere are pissed that this is happening.
No one has organized this kind of response and it is happening any way.
People are fed up with unsafe streets and obstructionists.
