The not being able to fit all the disses on a single plaque thing is killing me
President Donald Trump has added partisan and subjective plaques to a refashioned West Wing walkway he calls the Presidential Walk of Fame. The plaques include bombastic language, from “Sleepy Joe” Biden references to painting Republican icon Ronald Reagan as a fan of a young Trump.

I don’t know of any progressive artist of any variety who wants patronage and praise from right-wingers but conservatives are absolutely desperate for the slightest crumb of approval from all the people they’ve devoted their lives to obliterating

You can take the man out of the podcast studio, but you can't take the podcast studio out of the man
Dan Bongino has a nice cry on Fox & Friends: "I gave up everything for this. I mean, my wife is struggling... I stare at these 4 walls all day in DC, you know, by myself, divorced from my wife. Not divorced, but I mean, separated. And it's hard."

The definition of these grievance conservatives to me is, guys who can't do whatever deal they claim only they can do, and blame everyone other than themselves for this. That's Sarah Palin, that's shitty stand-ups, that's Bari Weiss, it is a through line through all of them. They bring nothing.

This was my immediate thought—that the Oscars just yoked their public-facing identity to YouTube's, even though there's literally nobody on the planet who can say with confidence what kind of a platform YouTube is going to be when the deal takes effect.
The funny thing about this is that while I'm sure YouTube has some grand rebranding strategy in mind for which this makes perfect sense, the odds that they will still be pursuing that same strategy in 3 years is 50-50 at best.
This just in: The Oscars telecast will move from broadcasting to streaming in 2029, switching from ABC to YouTube — a watershed moment for the entertainment business. www.cnn.com/2025/12/17/m...

Huh.
After decades of airing on ABC, the Oscars will be broadcast via YouTube starting in 2029, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday. ABC will continue to air the world’s most watched awards show through the 100th Oscars ceremony in 2028. bit.ly/48XGsol

Unbelievable. This would be a terrible blow to American science, writ large. It would decimate not only climate research, but also the kind of weather, wildfire, and disaster research that has underpinned half a century of progress in prediction, early warning, and increased resilience.

A second levee broke south of Seattle last night as our relentless parade of atmospheric rivers continues.

Thinking of the John Holdren quote that we have three options: mitigation, adaptation or suffering. The third is growing ever more apparent as progress lags on one and two.
