What kind of dirty shit was Bill Barr up to?

Bill Barrs dad gave Jeffrey Epstein his first job as a high school teacher
(!) Just weeks before Jeffrey Epstein was dead, Donald Trump’s Department of Justice was apparently monitoring Julie Brown, a journalist who has led coverage on Epstein.

Why?

Sheriffs nationwide have enormous control over jail voting access, with many restricting mail and voter guides, making it nearly impossible for incarcerated people to vote. A law in Colorado removed that discretion—and turnout has soared.
Jail Voting Soars in Colorado After State Mandates Polling Places in County Lockups
Local officials had claimed they were already giving detained people ballot access, but the first-in-the-nation mandate forced their hands and increased turnout across the state.

This crucial distinction has been being carefully, willfully undermined by fossil PR for twenty years. The difference between marginal emissions improvements that reinforce fossil dependence, and those that do not, is well obscured in political discourse - but it remains the critical one!
There's room for inside/outside strategies, but there's also a difference between doing what you can within current constraints and undermining the believability of future campaign narratives by collaborating with the villains of the story.

School districts in meatpacking towns in Iowa were running ICE drills back in like 2005 because there were raids that left hundreds of kids stranded after school with no parents. It's always been horrific
The first thing ICE did when it was created was raiding meat processing plants in the Midwest and south to help quell labor disputes over safety violations and keep those who weren't detained from getting legal protections as many had kids who grew up locally and were citizens with political power.

I'm sharing this because sharing an NYT story about this outweighs my dislike of the publication.

We have known for months because of data outside of Japan that this year's flu season was going to be bad but we have an HHS secretary that hates vaccination and so voila.
“New York City’s syndromic surveillance system, which collects information about every patient who visits an emergency room, reported 9,857 visits for “influenza-like illness” last week. That was higher than in the worst weeks of the 2017-18 or 2024-25 flu seasons, both ranked as “high severity”

Don't conflate radicalism, power, and militancy with mere violence. Militancy can mean organizing your community, building networks to exist and survive, to hide people who are being persecuted, to expose and hound the persecutors, and yes - violence at last, if necessary to protect those things.

jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation
