Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.

The thing I try to explain the most to those who don’t live here is that the Nuzzis of the world live in Washington (the place that deserves your ire) and the rest of us live in D.C., a collection of diverse, mostly quiet, walkable residential neighborhoods with no federal representation
I live in DC. You think “official Washington” didn’t care what Trump administration 2 was likely to do?

Talk to someone who works at NIH. Or State. Or CFPB. Or DOJ. They all knew what was at stake. They were all scared + furious.

And reporters like Nuzzi saw none of it because they didn’t care.

Jamelle is absolutely correct
i would push rogue one down and bring solo and the last jedi up. i’d also place attack of the clones at the bottom.
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

rogue one is bad folks. i have believed this since i saw it in theaters and no subsequent rewatch has changed my mind. basically a chop job until the final sequence, which is good (for star wars)

a concept i talk about a lot with the guy i'm seeing is "fast thinking", which is like low-grade, shallow, and easily disposable pop intellectualism. key hallmarks include focusing on discourse over substance, not being able to separate similar form from different content, and "annoying = evil"
legitimately i think one of the core failings of centrist pundits is that they have come to define themselves by what they are against--to chart their intellectual course by who they think is being annoying this week--instead of by recourse to genuine principle

people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

Vought’s threat all but calls forth Lincoln’s searing argument at Cooper Union:

“Plainly stated … you will destroy the Government, unless you be allowed to construe and enforce the Constitution as you please, on all points in dispute between you and us. You will rule or ruin in all events.”
Marshall calls Vought a degenerate criminal for his threats to maul the people’s government, and he’s right — but the truth is even more galling.

Assent to our crimes against the Constitution, Vought now demands — or else he will commit further such crimes. He _revels_ in flouting his oath.
This seems to be their angle. If there’s a shutdown they won’t furlough employees they’ll fire them permanently. The fact that this is illegal kind of isn’t the point these days. I don’t see why this is much of a threat. They don’t have to do this. It’s a choice. They run the govt. when things …

this isn't a consolidated dictatorship and it's pathetic to pretend it is. but at bottom, you've got to ask yourself if you'll put yourself at hazard to preserve your freedom and that of your fellow citizens. a lot of corporate executives and university administrators are presently saying "no"

I wanted to highlight the full extent of the government’s depraved conduct.
