New pinned post! Vibes here are all over the place, but my primary creative outlets are cosplay and making things from my fandoms. This thread is the highlights reel, when I remember to cross-post.
Me in 4 different cosplays: Valery Legasov from HBO's Chernobyl, Sam Vimes from Discworld, Francis Crozier from AMC's The Terror, and Siegfried Farnon from All Creatures Great & Small. This set is where I aimed to be pretty screen-accurate. Two projects inspired by Fallout 4: Custom matchbooks, and a leather Gladstone bag covered with travel stickers. Everything made from scratch by me. Some silly things: A sexy "Sexy Halloween Costume" costume, and a friend's sculpture of a mushroom man that I painted and posed in the woods. Two cosplays where I did my own thing: An intricate set of leather armor for Thw Mysterious Stranger from The Adventures of Mark Twain, and a WIP of a Nick Valentine (Fallout 4) cosplay using actual clothing from the 1940/50s.

So cool that whenever someone asks the president, “did you eat the Lindbergh baby” he’s like, “no but I’d be allowed to, I have the right to, I might do it later”

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

The main difference is probably the slant needle, which Singer tried to make proprietary. So, accessories often must be compatible with a slant needle (feet definitely).

God, the cost! I think I can find featherweights for $450 here, but that's still a big leap from my $40 Rocketeer and the $100 I paid today for the 301a 💀
thekroog.bsky.social
They're also cute as hell!

The cobra class 26 is the generally recommended machine for lighterweight leather, such as for bag work and wallets. The class 4 is the big boy for tack.
thekroog.bsky.social
The only other machines I want right now are a singer featherweight for shits n giggles (I am a sucker for small machines) and a cobra class 26 for leatherwork.

I have heard of those as well! And can imagine how they are useful to free up the hands.

I'll have to get this one cleaned up and oiled and test! I am a heel presser and have been curious about the knee pedal.
thekroog.bsky.social
Also interesting - the cabinet has a mechanism to convert the foot pedal into a knee press one.

I wish the 301a was the black model, but getting an "ugly" Singer means finding one in great condition at a great price.

Scored a Singer 301a today, pictured here to the right of my 500a (colloquially known as the "Rocketeer").

The 301a has a vertical bobbin, can do smaller stitches, and has narrower feed dogs. It will likely be my zipper/buttonhole and small curves machine.
Two vintage, all-metal sewing machines atop my work desk in my study. This is the Rocketeer, which has a retro futuristic look. In the lid is a cam system, that lets it do decorative stitches outside the default straight and zig-zag. This is the 301a, slightly smaller (it has a handle built into the top) and simpler, doing only a straight stitch.

For the first time in many years I took the time to work on a personal map, going back to the roots, and it was good.
I hope you will enjoy the result.

Fantasy map of a region nested between a chasm and a mountain range. The technique used is a mix of cross hatching and watercolor. It features fantasy creatures like dragons, goblins and giants. The style evokes old books and fairy tales.

Last summer my bff and I went to Epcot and we were waiting in line for the Ratatouille ride and he said "I've never seen this movie." And I tried to explain Ratatouille in words and sounded 100% unhinged, he didn't believe me at all.

Anyway that's what every day in 2025 as a trans person is like

Trump on pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell: Haven't heard the name in so long. I’ll take a look at it. I’ll speak to the DOJ. A lot of people have asked me for pardons.

Reporter: But she’s convicted of sex trafficking

Trump: I’ll have to take a look at it.
