Hi there! If you’ve found yourself here without knowing who I am, my name’s Christopher. Nice to meet you!

I’m a software developer (mostly #ruby and #rails for the past 10 years or so). I enjoy games of all sorts—especially #videoGames and #boardGames. I love solving/designing #puzzles. And more!

Last week, I played Evergreen, AI Space Puzzle, and Dodos Riding Dinos. Slowly making some progress on the large pile of unplayed games. 😄 #boardGames
Evergreen. Each player has a board showing a planet with different biomes. There are slots for pieces shaped like trees, tree sprouts, bushes, and lakes. A row of cards is spread between the players. AI Space Puzzle. A grid of sixteen square cards sits between two players. There are wooden tokens on some of the cards. There is also a cardboard tracker sitting on the table as well. Dodos Riding Dinos. A central board depicts an island separated into hexagon-shaped spaces. There are plastic miniatures on the board, shaped like dodos riding Dino’s. The players have cards in front of them, and an assortment of wooden tokens are laying between the players.

One of my favorite parts of making Blanche was writing the item descriptions (and "where she found it" text) for the trinkets you could win. It was fun writing for our friendly—if naive—little treasure collector. 😄 #playdate

While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI:

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.
AI impoverishes us at every step of the process:
- data centers pollute our environment
- energy use drives up costs
- content theft robs creators of income
- the actual output is used to displace workers and depress wages
- using it harms our mental health and impairs our competence
- the flood of AI slop is damaging our sociopolitical landscape

All in service of making a worse product - and world - to enrich a handful of already spectacularly wealthy people

The first Peanuts strip by Charles M. Schulz was published on October 2, 1950.
Four black and white panels of a boy and girl sitting on steps. 1st panel: Charlie Brown is approaching and the boy says “Well! Here comes ol’ Charlie Brown!” 2nd panel: As Charlie Brown passes, he says “Good ol’ Charlie Brown…yes, sir!” 3rd panel: “Good ol’ Charlie Brown…” 4th panel: Once Charlie is gone, “How I hate him!”

It took me a bit longer than I expected, perhaps, but that's "true" ending (or whatever you want to call it) on Silksong. What a fantastic game! Not sure I'll ever hit 100%, but that was quite an experience. Bravo.

And now I can listen to the whole soundtrack without fear of spoiling anything! 😄

This week, I played Books of Time, Mille Fiori, and Magical Athlete.

Or in other words: I wrote some books, grew a glass dynasty, and raced alongside an Egg and a Big Baby. #boardGames
Books of Time. Each player has three ring binders in front of them, representing books made of cards. Similar cards are arranged in a central market between the players. A board off to the side features tracks with markers at different levels. There’s a lectern on the other side, with a brown-cover book sitting on it. Mille Fiori. A central board is broken into separate areas, each with spaces that can hold a small translucent diamond of plastic (representing a glass tile). There’s also a market of cards beside the board. Magical Athlete. The central board is a race track, and the racer pieces—some currently on the track with others set beside it—feature cartoon artwork of various characters.

The Fall/Autumnal Equinox is TODAY at 2:19 PM EDT. That's the time at which our Sun is directly over the Earth's equator, signaling the start of Northern Hemisphere astronomical fall. The Earth’s northern hemisphere will continue to tilt further from the sun through the Winter Solstice on Dec 21.

Christian persecution in America is best defined by this image: No actual struggle, wearing clothes that cost more than my entire wardrobe, polished cross instead of rugged, and surrounded by crowds of fellow hypocrites cheering on bigotry who believe they're the victims.

Bearing your cross is a lot easier with wheels.
A man in a suit walks across a stadium floor carrying a large wooden cross on wheels. The stands are full of people, a big screen shows musicians performing, and a banner overhead reads “Building a Legacy, Remembering Charlie Kirk.” Fox News logo is in the corner.

I donated another 88 board games from my collection to Goodwill.

I'm not an elitist when it comes to games—the games you enjoy are the best games. But I do wonder what it's like at our Goodwill: three copies of Sorry!, an UNO, and a Fields of Arle with a custom wooden insert for all the components.

And they call the bag Maria.

Is that anything? Smothers Brothers? Paint Your Wagon? You know? Maybe?

It's almost a joke, I've got to imagine. You just have to be the age that my soul is, perhaps.

Last night, I played "Daybreak" by @mattleacock.bsky.social and @baddeo.bsky.social (from @cmyk.games).

Had a great time, and won! (…if you're willing to take back one single move that, in retrospect, was a bad idea. 😄)
Daybreak game in progress on a table. A main board is sitting to the left, showing a map of the world with tracks in various spots. The far side of the board shows a thermometer with cardboard bands denoting an increasing level. Each player has a personal board with tracks and wells for various tokens. Around each personal board is an array of cards, set up in stacks. Between the players, there are containers full of cardboard and wooden tokens.
