I made sure to thank the volunteers at the water stations, to just make myself smile and tell them I appreciated them, and that stabilized me too.

Marathons are a weird mental game. I'm never gonna place, hell, I might never break 4 hours. But I think I'll keep doing them.

But she told me I'd fucked up by trying to have a time goal, and that my goal was now to finish. I don't think I'll ever forget that brief chat. And it worked! On Sunday, at my lowest point mentally, I just started talking to a random person and that got me out of the hole.

I'll be done with marathon posting soon but I'm still unpacking Sunday in my mind.

During my first marathon, I hit the wall hard. I was miserable, barely able to keep going, and then a lady wearing devil horns and a tail gave me a pep talk and disappeared.

I'm PRETTY sure she was real...

There are actually a handful of good event photos of me from Sunday which extra sucks because they're always SO expensive - bring your prices down and more of the 30k people that did a race last weekend would be willing to pay!
