That feel when you’re embarrassed to be a lifelong member of a party your foremothers poured their hearts and souls into.
Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

Great though I really wish we could get people to make the switch from “equality” to equity.

Equality is an open door with a knob and steps.

Equity is an open door and you build a ramp and install a button.
🔥 BREAKING: A spokesperson for the European Commission messaged me today about the EU's commitment to "equality" in response to the Trump administration issuing new rules saying countries with DEI policies are infringing on human rights. A Commission spokesperson messaged:

Please don’t lecture poor people on how they get access to books.

Go rail at rich people on why we can’t afford them.

It’s all well and good to tell people it’s okay to do.

That doesn’t mean it’s right.

It means that it requires privilege to be able to do art. It means that art by privileged ppl is the only art that gets seen.
2. It's rare for any creative, including writers, to be able to live solely off their creative income. Moreover, there is no correlation between the creative value of art and the income status of its creator. It's okay to have another gig to eat and pay bills and survive our capitalist hellscape.

This is really cool to hear!

A PSA for the AP comm:
I’m a PhD in fandom studies. Also have an MFA in Drama Writing and LOVE dramaturgy. Used to fantasize about being a dramaturg for the MCU. Lvl 22 rogue 3.5ed (started from 0!)

I would DIE to be an AP dramaturg if anyone is looking for one!
@seaplaysrpg.bsky.social and @byconniechang.bsky.social are really the first I know of (you can find their talks on @recklessattack.bsky.social going back to 2022) but I also talked to a few others in person who were interested in adding it to their processes.

Yes and I also love beautiful art. I will absolutely play LoZ: OoT on my N64 w my tube tv. And I will absolutely still get stuck in the Gerudo Prison.

And I also think the 3d version is gorgeous and I love the limited edition 3ds I got with it.

Plus not everyone has their old N64.
"What game would you instantly buy if it was remastered?!"

Just get an emulator jesus christ stop waiting for corporations to give you permission to play an old game.

This is neither here nor there but the really funny thing about it is that they weren’t that hard to reset. You just had to actually walk over there and read the buttons.
True, but it’s nice to have a pope whose VCR clock isn’t flashing “12:00” constantly.

Of course. The Bible is pretty clear in its opinion of humans playing God.

people are angry that chatbots are being thrust on them; that the industry is unregulated; that it’s deskilling young people; is being used as a weapon against labor and popular gAI is built on theft of the work of millions of artists and authors.

You don’t get to demand civility.
Wow 80% bad-faith responses, and people lecturing the creator of Flask here and the creator of Django/datasette in the comments on why AI is useless for software engineering...
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

And this is why you don’t have enough QTBIPOC authors and ND authors and disabled authors (or any other creative field)

We cannot afford to work two full time jobs and not get paid for one of them. We can’t afford to be parents and providers and artists.
And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.

Easy free dopamine boost:

Watch other people reacting to your favorite thing on YouTube as they discover it for the first time. Music and travel are especially easy to find.

I LOVE watching people from abroad discover how cool Michigan is.

The best personality traits to adopt to immunize yourself from fascism:

1. Kindness.
2. Equity and inclusion.
3. Always ask questions. Even the “stupid*” ones.
4. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Be generous of spirit.
5. Always be learning and teaching without condescending.

WHICH IS EXACTLY THE THING THEY ARE RAILING AGAINST!

It’s basically a mindset of “I’m better than everyone because I act like a billionaire without actually having the cash”

THE CASH IS NOT THE THING THAT MAKES IT CORRUPT.
I saw the “I don’t work, I live off the kindness of others, therefore I am better than you because I don’t center my life around money” take, and like, this one always baffles me because what it means is that you expect others to fund your needs while they are directly exploited by capitalism

Every time my nephew goes into theater kid mode over the new wicked movie, I cause him to have a breakdown and plot my murder, because I keep calling the first one wicked: infinity war and this one wicked: endgame and asking him how cool was it, when Ariana grande got the iron spider suit in space

Video — snowboard kids 2? Before college I honestly didn’t care about being good or not. I just liked to ride Epona around Hyrule Field.

Board — maybe… scattegories. I had a precocious vocabulary & even when I knew a word I didn’t always know if it was…

I put “douche.”

I got the points.

1000% concur which is why I started my story with the world first (well. I started building a world this character could live in but set plot aside until much much later)

That said the whole adhd thing means I’ve started this story many times and not gotten too far
Star Trek has a fundamental advantage over Star Wars, which is that it started as an extended world-building project. Star Wars focused on a specific story first and came to world-building later, primarily through Disneyfication. The full world-building was simply never as good in Star Wars.
here's my thing with this:

it's objectively true, there is vastly more good star trek than star wars

but I still like the star wars universe as a sandbox more than star trek
