2. It's rare for any creative, including writers, to be able to live solely off their creative income. Moreover, there is no correlation between the creative value of art and the income status of its creator. It's okay to have another gig to eat and pay bills and survive our capitalist hellscape.

almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.

I saw the “I don’t work, I live off the kindness of others, therefore I am better than you because I don’t center my life around money” take, and like, this one always baffles me because what it means is that you expect others to fund your needs while they are directly exploited by capitalism

Star Trek has a fundamental advantage over Star Wars, which is that it started as an extended world-building project. Star Wars focused on a specific story first and came to world-building later, primarily through Disneyfication. The full world-building was simply never as good in Star Wars.
here's my thing with this:
it's objectively true, there is vastly more good star trek than star wars
