stopping the flow of HIV drugs to poor countries and demanding that foreign doctors stop distributing the meds already sitting in their clinics is so evil it is hard to wrap my head around. one day when when this is all history i will struggle to forgive anyone who voted for him

A while back I asked folks why they’re joining Bluesky and the most common response I saw was, “I just want a good place to get my news” and, yall, no. Bad.

It will save you time and mental energy if you understand that a lot of white people don’t believe anything is racism unless the person doing it is wearing a shirt that says, “I am doing this for a racism.” Plausible deniability is a social survival tool for them in a way it has never been for us.

The "he's not gonna listen to her" reactions are missing many points. Lots of other people are also hearing it. Lots of people can see him hearing it, then weigh what she's said with what he'll do. Lots of people can see her refusal to surrender these ancient teachings to the latest face of empire
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

Been thinking about this cartoon.
For no reason.
Really.
It's from 1889 -- during the Gilded Age.

Earthjustice is ready for this moment. Over the last four years, we have built our capacity to navigate the new legal landscape. Many of the incoming administration's plans are rehashes of old fights – fights that we have won before.

unfortunately for the administration you cannot assert that a new and novel interpretation of the constitution is law with an executive order AND other constitutional officers have a say here too.
Breaking news: The U.S. government will no longer recognize the citizenship of children born in the United States to immigrants who lack legal status, one of 10 immigration-related executive orders President-elect Donald Trump plans to sign Monday, an incoming administration official told reporters.

The incoming president plans to take at least 10 actions related to the border or immigration, including ramping up deportations and suspending refugee resettlement.

Thread:
as a person who spent a large chunk of my life working in democratic politics, a big part of the problem is that the only way to advance your career is to never question anything.

the only people who get ahead are people who love the status quo and live by it. at every level, kiss asses.
At this point I think the Democrats have a masochism/humiliation kink going on. So much bad political strategy! All the time! About matters small and great! They keep thinking if they play by the rules they will persevere whilst Republicans dgaf about rules and do what they want.

TikTok is back for now. Good for my Sunday meal prep/recipe inspo, but still bleak for social media catering to the political benefits of big tech and billionaires.
