UBI. Universal Basic Income. In every trial everywhere, it works. People are healthier, more engaged even more productive. It creates more & costs society less than picking up the pieces. Yet despite these results it's always another trial because the threat of destitution helps the rich feel safe.

Almost two thirds of people in the UK have cut back on essentials due to the cost of living. The crisis isn’t over — it’s getting worse.

Today we're launching the Cost of Living Action campaign, calling on the Government to end this crisis and ensure it never happens again.

Universal basic income is not the ENTIRE solution. Of course we need other things too (like M4A) but it's the missing floor that can rise as GDP rises. Plus UBI will empower a lot of work, paid and unpaid, and create jobs by its spending. With that foundation we can better achieve what else we need.

Two Canadian economists say UBI is unavoidable.

"Assuming that [AI] will wreak havoc on opportunities for people to support themselves through full-time employment, the right to income will need to be divorced from returns to wage labour to avoid immiserating those without adequate capital."

For example, what role do vouchers play in the social welfare system? They are intended to provide targeted help to the poor. But why not abolish poverty altogether? That could be achieved with a basic income. #basicincome

Immer mehr Arbeitslose. In vielen Ländern. Gibt es eine Lösung? Ja klar. Das Bedingungslose Grundeinkommen. Die Bürger müssen es bloß umsetzen.

All the isms are dead. All the labels (liberal, conservative, libertarian, democrat, republican, social democrat) are meaningless. We should all be HUMANISTS now if we want our species to survive.
I want the United States government to ensure that every American has food to eat, a place to live, a safe neighborhood, transportation to move around & work, clean water to drink, free health care & free education.

Don’t care what label you give that.

That’s what I want my taxes to pay for.

Means testing destroys societies. All those angry people who hate the poor for getting SNAP and Medicare and Medicaid and so on are ready to go for fascism because we are too cowardly to tax the rich to just give everyone a universal basic income

progressive tax rates and universal basic income is the only moral solution I can dream up

www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09... Nice to talk about #basicincome. And it is not expensive. Basic income is mostly an replacement or substitution of existing incomes. Do journalists know this? 😳
Money for everyone an option as AI opens the door for basic income
COVID showed just how "fragile" our economic security is. As artificial intelligence potentially takes jobs from humans, a universal basic income might be a solution.

In this new piece I argue that the climate crisis cannot be solved within capitalism. I think we need to take this fact seriously and consider what it means for the climate movement.

Also the top 10% are consuming half of all goods and services and the bottom 60% are consuming only 20%. Our economy has become reoriented over the past five decades away from the demands of the middle class and toward those with high incomes. Fixing this requires UBI, M4A, and taxing the rich.
The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion, after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year alone.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country is getting squeezed by tariffs and high prices for groceries, utilities, and health care.

The system is broken.

Universal Basic Income would improve mental health, reduce homelessness, reduce crime, and reduce drug and alcohol abuse. I'm not saying it would 100% fix all of these, but that it would significantly help with all of them as just one policy. UBI and universal healthcare are musts for our wellbeing.
I’m sitting on a panel across from someone who believes that people with mental health disorders should be imprisoned.

Unfortunately she’s not alone in that opinion. Donald Trump’s recent executive order on homelessness shows that he believes the same thing. It’s fucking abhorrent.

If you're serious about preventing crime, then you should be serious about universal basic income. Education + healthcare will only get you so far. Canada's basic income pilot in the 1970s reduced overall crime in Dauphin by 15% and violent crime by 37%. In Namibia's UBI pilot, crime dropped by 43%.
Mass incarceration as a solution to crime is like using quarantine to fight food poisoning. Once you've had the meal it's too late.

We ought to be putting 90% of our resources into preventative measures like education, housing resources, and healthcare.

Das Jobcenter, also Hartz4 hat heute dieselbe Funktion, wie vor 20 Jahren, als es eingeführt wurde. Es hat sich somit gesellschaftlich nichts verbessert. 😳
