In 'Alien' (1979), the alien is an expression of capital. It is an aggressive, hostile, amoral, predatory, assimilating, accumulating, consuming, inhuman *structure* or *pattern* that is made out of its victims. In 'Aliens' (1986) it becomes an evil insect representing Vietnamese people.

The whole idea of the (sigh, eye roll) 'Xenomorph' is a misprision. The beast in Alien is a protean, parasitic, assimilating *pattern* rather than a species. What we see is the result when the so-called (sigh, eye roll) 'Space Jockey' gets blended with human via the migration of the pattern.

Ah but that is the secret of the appeal of centrism. The centre moves with the discourse of the regnant power. This enables anyone with no anchoring principle to align themselves to an ever right-shifting and ruler-amenable position while aesthetically remaining a reasonable moderate.
