I don't think we understand just how bad the decline of the Internet is to knowledge.

3 years ago, I could perform a very basic search in any engine and get an absurd number of relevant links, research articles, etc.

Today, I can perform the same search and find absolutely nothing.

Windows: NOW YOU CAN **TALK** TO YOUR COMPUTER AND YOUR COMPUTER TALKS TO YOU

Blind people: ok that's been a feature forever

People who work in open plan spaces: if everyone talks to cortana I might start killing.

Me: I hate that actually I don't want a computer that listens to me 24/7

yknow.... with all the white collar, political corruption, and investment scam crimes everywhere all the time, it's kinda refreshing to see a good old fashioned heist in the news

We all knew it was never about the porn. But if your normie bros wanna keep torrenting their marble and star worms they're gonna have to actually take the gooners seriously for once.
Buried in Michigan's antiporn bill is a provision to effectively outlaw "circumvention tools," such as VPNs.

Mark my words: legislators will increasingly leverage porn panic to restrict or ban VPNs, and to limit internet privacy far beyond adult sites.
Experts raise privacy concerns over Michigan bill targeting pornography and VPNs
Rep. Josh Schriver, the bill’s sponsor, says the law is designed to target only producers and distributors of pornography, not everyday internet users.

Tech bros are like "we need to invent robot brain implants that allow you to do your hobbies without participating in them" and then not understand why people aren't buying, meanwhile everyone I know would pay double for any useful app that also didn't show you notifications you've already cleared.

Years ago artists came together to boycott Inktober & for very good reason.

It’s creator—besides plagiarising Alphonso Dunn—back then was super anti-digital art, excluding entries because they had pencil sketching & was then caught lightboxing all his inks.

Genuinely don’t bother with this event.
Didn't we agreed to stop romanticing Inktober a couple of years ago bc the guy running It was terrible and the trend glorifies art as content, or what happened

Restricting the expression of sexuality through fiction and art made by adults, for adults – including those you find personally disturbing or offputting – is conservative censorship, full stop. When that censorship disproportionately affects subgroups, that's also discrimination. For shame.

Stuff like this is how we got "pewpew," "unalive," and junk into modern vernacular. Don't let a service or platform take your words from you!
I just saw some people talking about the bsky censorship situation and censoring the word rape. DON'T do that here. People who avoid the subject can mute this word, and using words like "r4p3, 🍇" or whatever is not helping anyone. Why do people do that??

While I am generally not the target market for any sort of nonconsensual sexual content, there is absolutely no world in which you can trust to the discretion of moderators in judging this sort of thing. It will always end badly, and in a different place from where YOU thought the line was.
Romancelandia: even if you don't read dark romance, the new Bsky guidelines should concern you.

Disallowed: "Illustrated or animated" depictions of nonconsensual adult content.

Why ban fictional depictions of anything? And how will consent be determined from an illustration?

ftr this isn't the first time bluesky has done stupid as fuck shit. I was here in the trenches in 2023 watching them pull dumb moves and get yelled down by everyone to back down, successfully. the people running this place are not on your side but they are hilariously easy to bully. go hard.

I'm so tired of this puritanical bullshit.
Sex is healthy, sex fantasies are healthy, fiction is healthy.

I wish people would stop conflating BDSM and fiction with assault.
People have fantasies about power. That's normal!

Exploring feeling via stories is what humans do!

taking a stance against simulated "non consent" in porn is idiotic and leads always to having some dipshit appointed to arbitrarily decide what acts between adults "can't be consented to," and therefore can't be depicted. I'll give you a hint: they will be gay.

Devs, quote this with some of the wacky things that have happened during development.

You should be blocking their asses so they die in obscurity.

I haven’t played Hollow Knight, but I couldn’t be happier that so many people are so mouth-frothing excited for an artsy, stylized 2D indie platformer that they’re crashing digital storefronts. Another victory for good art!

The censorship of NSFW is always driven by large, organised groups who think any kind of sex beyond heterosexual, normal missionary is degenerate and wrong. Inevitably, any talk of censorship ends up removing progressive queer media because that's by design.

This is why I keep reminding everyone to keep calling. They're not backing down, they're doubling down. I know you're tired of seeing it, I am too, but we can't afford to stop. They can't be allowed to get away with it.

Don't stop calling.
Heavy Hearts dev Dammitbird received the following notice from Steam, noting “your app has failed our review because we're unable to support the Early Access model of development for a game with mature themes”

This strikes me as overcompliance and censorious on Steam’s part
